Transform lives, every single day

Do you want a career that means more? At Anglicare Sydney, we bring the strength, the support and the strategy to make it happen. We’re a well-respected not-for-profit that’s been serving people in need for over 170 years. Our vision is simple yet powerful: Jesus Christ honoured, lives enriched and communities strengthened.

As our Chaplain at Elizabeth Lodge, you’ll provide Christ-centred spiritual leadership and pastoral care to residents, their families and our dedicated staff.

Based within our residential care home in Rushcutters Bay, you’ll have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with older people, walk alongside residents through changing seasons of life and provide spiritual hope and support, including to people living with dementia and those receiving end-of-life care.

You’ll join a compassionate, purpose-driven community where your ministry can make a profound difference in people’s lives.

Your opportunity

Chaplaincy is a vital part of Anglicare’s ministry and an expression of our commitment to provide holistic care that recognises the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of each person. Working onsite alongside our Pastoral Carers and as part of the broader multidisciplinary care team, you’ll lead the chaplaincy ministry within Elizabeth Lodge.

At the heart of the role is relationship. You’ll spend time getting to know residents individually, understanding their spiritual needs and preferences and providing pastoral care that responds to where they are in life.

You’ll also provide opportunities for residents to engage with the Christian faith through individual pastoral conversations, Bible teaching, prayer, chapel services and other expressions of Christian ministry.

With compassion and faith, you will:

- Provide Christ-centred pastoral care through visitation, prayer, Bible teaching, preaching and church services.
- Build meaningful relationships with residents and provide spiritual care responsive to their individual needs and preferences.
- Encourage Christian residents in their faith while creating appropriate opportunities for other residents to explore the Christian faith.
- Provide spiritual and pastoral support to residents living with dementia and those approaching end of life, as well as their families.

- Work collaboratively with Pastoral Carers, Home Management and the multidisciplinary care team to provide holistic, person-centred care.

What you’ll bring

You’re a warm, relational and mature Christian leader with a genuine heart for older people. Your ministry is grounded in a strong and active Christian faith, and you’re able to communicate the hope of the gospel with sensitivity, wisdom and compassion.

You understand that effective pastoral ministry begins with relationships. You listen well, build trust and can walk alongside people experiencing grief, loss, declining health, dementia and end-of-life circumstances.

You’re also comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary environment, maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality while building solid relationships with residents, families and staff.

What’s required

- A strong, personal and active Christian faith.
- Relevant theological training.
- Ordination by, or recognition as a Minister of the Archbishop of, the Anglican Diocese of Sydney.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in pastoral ministry, particularly with older people.
- Ongoing membership and active participation in a local Evangelical Church.

What’s preferred

- Previous experience in ministry, pastoral care and/or aged care.
- Experience providing pastoral support around grief, loss, dementia and end-of-life care.
- Experience working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary care environment.

You’ll also need appropriate computer skills, a current valid driver’s licence and access to your own vehicle.

Before commencing with Anglicare, you’ll need to satisfy the relevant pre-employment requirements for the role, including required probity, qualification and referee checks.
