We are currently seeking a compassionate, organised and experienced School Nurse to join our College health and wellbeing team.
About the Role
As a School Nurse at ICOM, you will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day health, safety and wellbeing needs of our students.
Reporting to the Senior Nurse, you will provide timely and professional nursing care to students who become unwell, are injured or require health support during the school day. You will assist with first aid, medication administration, health management plans, accurate health records and communication with parents/carers and relevant College staff.
Working collaboratively with the Senior Nurse and wider College team, you will help ensure that student health needs are managed safely, professionally and with compassion.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing first aid and nursing care to students who are injured or unwell
- Supporting the Senior Nurse in the day-to-day operation of the College health service
- Administering medications in accordance with College procedures and relevant requirements
- Assisting with the management and implementation of individual student health plans
- Supporting students with allergies, asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes and other health needs
- Maintaining accurate, confidential and up-to-date student health and treatment records
- Monitoring and maintaining first aid supplies and equipment
- Communicating appropriately with parents/carers regarding student health concerns
- Liaising with teachers, leadership and other relevant staff to support student health and wellbeing
- Assisting with health and first aid requirements for excursions, camps, activities and College events as required
- Responding calmly and appropriately to medical incidents and emergencies
- Supporting health promotion and preventative health initiatives across the College
- Maintaining student privacy, dignity and confidentiality at all times
We are looking for a nurse who:
- Is caring, approachable and confident working with children and young people from Foundation to Year 12
- Demonstrates sound clinical judgement and can respond calmly to illness, injury and medical emergencies
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Is highly organised and maintains accurate documentation
- Understands the importance of confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Can work effectively under the direction of the Senior Nurse while also using initiative when required
- Builds positive relationships with students, families and staff
- Enjoys working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary school environment
- Demonstrates a genuine commitment to student health, safety and wellbeing
- Is committed to the values and ethos of the College
Qualifications & Requirements
- Relevant nursing qualifications
- Current Working with Children Check or eligibility to obtain one
- Current First Aid and CPR qualifications
- Current Anaphylaxis and Asthma Management training,
or willingness to obtain
- Experience working with children or young people is highly regarded
- Previous experience in a school, community, paediatric or primary healthcare setting would be advantageous
- A commitment to child safety and the values and ethos of the College
