The Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union (AMWU) is a progressive trade Union dedicated to advancing the rights and wellbeing of manufacturing workers and their communities. AMWU members work in the metals trades, printing, paper industry, vehicle industry, food and confectionery industry as well as technical trades and professions.

About the Role

AMWU National Office seeks the engagement of a National Systems & IT Officer to administer, optimise and strategically develop the Union’s operational system(s), with iMIS serving as the organisation’s core enterprise application. This role ensures the Union’s technology, data and digital capabilities support efficient operations, informed decision-making and delivering quality service for AMWU members.

The National Systems & IT Officer will be required to work collaboratively across the organisation to enhance operational processes, strengthen data governance, deliver meaningful reporting and analytics, and identify opportunities to leverage technology to improve the Union’s capabilities. Acting as a fundamental point of co-ordinating operational and technology systems, this position will work concurrently with employees, vendors and managed service providers to implement innovative, sustainable and user-focused technology solutions.

A critical responsibility of this position will be the maintenance and optimisation of the AMWU’s iMIS membership system.

This role would suit an individual with experience or interest in driving digital transformation initiatives, supporting organisational change and fostering the effective adoption of technology. A willingness to learn quickly, excellent attention to detail, an understanding of union values and working within a national organisation is fundamental.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Manage the administration, configuration,



maintenance and continuous improvement of the Union’s operational systems, in particular, our iMIS membership system;
- Administer upgrades, testing and systems enhancement(s) to achieve operational requirements;
- Maintain system documentation and standards whilst monitoring system performance and resolving issues;
- Analyse existing technical and operational processes, evaluate viability and recommend sustainable technological solutions;
- Design and implement system improvements, promote continuous improvement initiatives and valuable data governance;
- Maintain data quality and integrity whilst concurrently safeguarding organisational (including confidential) information;
- Develop reporting efficiencies, dashboards and produce operational reports;
- Assist with data migration and cleansing;
- Provide advanced user support, deliver staff training and develop knowledge resources;
- Support operational change initiatives and ensure compliance with organisational policies, privacy obligations and legislative requirements;
- Collaborate on technological systems projects (including implementation) and ensure technical investments deliver measurable operational value; and
- any other duties as determined by the National Executive Officer, National Leadership or National Council.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

- Demonstrated experience administering and supporting operational systems, in particular iMIS;
- Demonstrated experience analysing and improving business processes through the effective use of technology;
- Experience managing organisational data, including data quality, governance, reporting and information management;
- Demonstrated experience supporting operational applications and co-ordinating technological solutions across an organisation;
- Demonstrated experience configuring applications, managing user access, security roles and system administration;




- Sound understanding of system integrations and data exchange between applications;
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365 technologies, including SharePoint and Teams;
- Understanding of information security, privacy principles and technology risk management;
- Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences;
- Proven ability to build productive working relationships with stakeholders at all levels and working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams;
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and within a team environment;
- Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex issues and implement effective solutions;
- Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities, delivery projects and meet deadlines;
- Appreciation of union principles and a commitment to continuous improvement, resourceful innovation and member focused solutions.

Desirable

- Experience administering iMIS EMS or previous versions of iMIS;
- Experience managing software vendors and outsourced IT service providers;
- Understanding of project management methodologies and/or comparable experience;
- Relevant qualifications in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Systems or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of experience;
- Experience working within a Union organisation, not-for-profit or a commitment to the trade union movement; and
- Experience working within a small team.

- Employment conditions as per New Classification Structure 2026 and Wages and Conditions of Employment for Officials and Officers
- Officer Level 5 – $ 116,846.27
