The Role
The Air Combat Systems Program Office (ACSPO) is seeking a motivated, capable and experienced Project Manager to support the delivery Air 6000 F-35A projects. The Air 6000 Integrated Program Manager is responsible for the alignment of cost, schedule, scope and risk across all Air 6000 project elements, with a particular focus on the approval of recent project elements and the transition and closure of extant project elements.
The Air 6000 Integrated Program Manager will exercise a considerable degree of independence and perform a leadership role within the ACSPO Project Management Unit. They will exercise sound decision-making and judgement to provide expert policy advice. They will have in-depth knowledge of the Project Management and are responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to their work within that function. They will engage in complex to very complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence.
This position is accountable to plan, lead and manage a range of human and physical resources and exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve business outcomes. They will manage one or more teams. They will develop and implement work plans, set performance indicators, and review individual, team and business performance, focusing on identifying opportunities for building team capability and continuous improvement. They will set work that align with the strategic objectives and communicate expected outcomes.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium,
in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. For further information, please contact the contact officer.
About our Team
ACSPO organisationally sits in the Aerospace Combat Systems Branch in CASG, within the Department of Defence. ACSPO is the aviation asset management in-service support agency for the Australian F-35A Lightning II Air System. ACSPO engages with local, regional and international enterprise partners and suppliers of the F-35 Global program; consisting of both foreign governments and industry, to provide sustainment support for the Capability Manager, the Royal Australian Air Force.
ACSPO is based at RAAF Williamtown in NSW and supports the Australian F-35A Fleet. The F-35A aircraft are based at RAAF Williamtown and RAAF Tindal in the Northern Territory.
The primary focus for ACSPO is governing across the Australian F-35A Air Combat Capability. This includes the ongoing management, execution and continuous improvement of the various governance frameworks, processes and procedures in order to provide leading aviation asset management.
Our Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- A strong knowledge of the Defence Capability System life cycle, including requirements development and Government approval process.
- Experience with complex project cost and budget management.
- Experience in complex to very complex project management activities including ability to interpret and apply policy, legislation and understand critical risks and performance requirements related to project management.
- Experience in managing teams in a dynamic workforce.
- In-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal, time-management, written and communication skills, including strong emotional intelligence, resilience and adaptability, tailoring your approach when targeting audiences.
- The ability to influence, negotiate and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels to identify best-fit organisational solutions.
- The ability to flexibly adapt to changing situations, including using sound judgement under pressure, to ensure the success of key deliverables.

Security Clearance:
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 2”.
