Our client is a well-established national law firm with a respected contested wills and estates practice, including lawyers recognised in independent legal guides.

They are looking for a Managing Associate to lead the team in Sydney, run a caseload of complex estate disputes and help grow the practice, with a National Practice Director and senior leadership behind you. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity.

Salary Range and Features of the position:

• $180,000 - $210,000 + super, depending on your experience and qualifications
• Step into management with real backing: a National Practice Director and other senior leaders to lean on, and a seat at strategy meetings with the national executive
• Challenging and varied contested wills and estates matters, including complex cases
• Support to obtain Specialist Accreditation if you do not already hold it
• Hybrid working, with one to two days a week from home, and a healthy work-life balance
• Accounts, marketing, HR, tech and paralegal support, so your time goes on the law and the team

About the role

The role combines hands-on casework with leading the team long term, supported by a National Practice Director and other senior staff. You will:

• Advise and act for clients in contested wills and estates matters, including complex cases
• Manage a diverse, high-volume caseload from start to finish
• Draft high-quality legal documents, including defences and court submissions
• Appear at court hearings, trials and mediations
• Build strong relationships with clients, opposing counsel and other stakeholders
• Mentor and supervise solicitors in the team
• Contribute to business development and practice growth
• Develop precedents and policies with the National Practice Director
• Take part in strategy and business meetings with the national executive, and manage the team's financial targets





Requirements for the Role:

• At least 5 years' PAE in wills and estates, with a strong focus on litigation and complex matters
• Admission to practise in NSW and a current practising certificate
• Specialist Accreditation (considered favourably, not essential)
• Solid court experience and sound knowledge of wills and estates procedure
• Excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities
• Experience supervising and mentoring solicitors, and a desire to move into management
• An entrepreneurial mindset: you spot opportunities, drive growth and build a team
• Comfort running the practice independently while drawing on national support
• A referral network and a track record of generating work will be highly regarded
