The FOI Section assists the department to manage its obligations in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act).

FOI Case Officers manage a caseload of FOI requests under supervision, and play a key role in FOI triage, administration, and statutory reporting. FOI Case Officers are critical to the success of FOI section meeting the department’s statutory obligations under the FOI Act.

FOI Case Officers are supervised by APS 6 Senior FOI Case Officers or Executive Level 1 Assistant Directors.

The key duties of the position include:

Key responsibilities:

- Managing a caseload of FOI access requests to strict statutory timeframes.
- Liaising with Senior Executive Service (SES) or Executive Level 2 level FOI decision makers for processing instructions and preparation of draft decisions under direction.
- Preparing and coordinating consultations with third parties.
- Ensuring knowledge and compliance with relevant frameworks, decision-making processes, guidelines and regulations.
- Developing and supporting relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Responding to stakeholder emails and/or calls to the FOI Hotline.
- Publishing documents on the department’s FOI Disclosure Log.
- Contributing to the supervision and development of APS4 Administration Officer, including building capacity through coaching, performance feedback, and encouraging career development.

Eligibility

- To be eligible for employment with the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, applicants must be an Australian citizen at the time an offer of employment is made.
- An applicant’s suitability for employment with Health will also be assessed through a variety of pre-employment check processes, such as:
- Satisfactory completion of a criminal history check,



and where relevant, a Working with Children and Vulnerable People Check,
- Completion of a medical declaration and pre-employment medical (where required),
- Providing evidence of qualifications (where required), and
- Obtaining and maintaining a security clearance at the required level.

- For this role applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting or hold a current security clearance at an appropriate level.

- This recruitment process is being used to fill both ongoing and non-ongoing positions. Non-ongoing positions will be offered on a specified term basis for an initial period of up to 12 months with the possibility of being extended (this will not exceed a total of 24 months in the same or similar role).
