Principal Inspector (FuelCheck Taskforce)

Temporary Prospect (up to 2 years)

Location: Sydney, Gosford, Newcastle or other NSW locations by negotiation

Salary: Grade 9/10 package ($133,348 - $146,945 plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading)

Hybrid - 2-3 days in the office per week

Lead Regulatory Compliance for a High-Profile NSW Government Initiative

NSW Fair Trading is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Principal Inspector to join the newly established FuelCheck Taskforce.

FuelCheck is a key NSW Government program that provides consumers with real-time fuel pricing information, helping motorists make informed decisions and promoting transparency across the fuel retail industry. Recent funding investment has enabled the expansion of the FuelCheck compliance program, creating an exciting opportunity to lead regulatory operations and contribute to a fair and trustworthy marketplace for the people of NSW.

As the Principal Inspector, you will provide leadership and strategic oversight of FuelCheck compliance activities and other activities within the remit of Consumer Affairs branch, manage complex investigations and enforcement matters, and mentor a team of inspectors to deliver high-quality regulatory outcomes.

What You'll Be Doing

- Lead and coordinate compliance and enforcement activities relating to FuelCheck obligations across NSW.
- Provide strategic advice on regulatory risks, emerging issues and enforcement priorities.
- Manage and oversee complex investigations, compliance interventions and regulatory projects.
- Develop intelligence-led compliance strategies to improve industry adherence to legislative requirements.
- Build productive relationships with industry stakeholders, government agencies and internal teams.
- Monitor regulatory performance, analyse trends and report on compliance outcomes.
- Coach, mentor and develop inspectors to build capability and strengthen regulatory practice.
- Contribute to taskforce governance,



operational planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Represent NSW Fair Trading in stakeholder forums, meetings and regulatory discussions.

About You
- We are looking for a confident and collaborative regulatory leader who demonstrates:
- Extensive experience in compliance, investigations, enforcement or regulatory operations.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach and develop teams.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proven experience managing complex investigations or regulatory matters.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement, negotiation and communication skills.
- Sound judgement and the ability to make evidence-based decisions in a complex environment.

- Experience in project delivery, operational planning and achieving organisational outcomes.

Essential Requirements
- Certificate IV (Government Investigations) or equivalent, or willingness to obtain.
- Current NSW Driver Licence.
- Willingness to undertake regular travel throughout NSW.
- Satisfactory criminal history and probity checks.
