Wood is currently recruiting for a Principal Instrumentation & Control Systems Engineer to join our team in Melbourne on a permanent role.

This is a senior technical leadership role responsible for delivering complex Instrumentation, Control Systems and Automation engineering solutions across major energy and industrial projects.

Reporting to the Lead Instrument & Controls Engineer and working as part of our clients' integrated project teams, you will provide technical leadership, engineering assurance and discipline governance while leading teams across FEED, Detailed Design, EPCM and execution phases for major brownfield and greenfield projects.

Responsibilities

The key objectives for this role are:

- Provide technical leadership, discipline governance and engineering assurance for Instrumentation and Control Systems engineering activities
- Act as the discipline focal point and technical authority for complex engineering decisions and design reviews
- Lead and coordinate Instrumentation and Control Systems engineering deliverables across multiple projects and project phases
- Plan, budget, organise and control discipline deliverables and resources to achieve project objectives
- Preparing Instrument deliverables for all project phases the oil and gas industry ensuring they are consistently checked, accurate and presentable
- Ensuring all engineering deliverables are technically compliant and delivered in accordance with project schedules
- Provide expert technical guidance on instrumentation, control systems, safety instrumented systems (SIS), distributed control systems (DCS), PLCs, SCADA systems, telecommunications and industrial networks
- Provide functional safety leadership and support implementation of IEC 61511 lifecycle requirements
- Support industrial cybersecurity objectives and ensure designs align with IEC 62443 principles where applicable
- Liaise with client engineering, operations and maintenance personnel to develop practical and efficient engineering solutions
- Co-ordinating with other disciplines during all stages of design development, construction, pre-commissioning, and start-up
- Assisting in the coordination of all activities related to Instrument engineering design




- Identify technical, schedule and commercial risks and develop mitigation strategies
- Mentor, coach and develop engineers within the Instrument and Control discipline
- Drive continuous improvement, standardisation and lessons learned initiatives across projects
- Support proposal development, engineering estimates and business development activities
- Providing day to day support and services to the client and the integrated project team
- Provide site and commissioning support during construction, pre-commissioning, start-up and operational phase
- Be willing to undertake site visits, both onshore and offshore, as required

You will hold a degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Electronics or Control Systems Engineering from a recognised institution and possess:

- Minimum 15-20 years of relevant experience in Instrumentation, Control Systems and Automation engineering within the Oil & Gas, Energy, Resources, Petrochemical or refinery sector
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a Principal Engineer, Lead Principal Engineer, Technical Authority or equivalent senior engineering leadership role
- Registered Professional Engineer Victoria (RPEV) accreditation in the Electrical Engineering Area of Practice is mandatory
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status with Engineers Australia is highly regarded.
- Proven experience delivering FEED, Detailed Design, EPCM and execution projects within an engineering consultancy or EPCM environment
- Extensive knowledge of instrumentation, analyser systems, metering systems, control valves, shutdown systems, PLCs, DCS, SIS, SCADA, telecommunications and industrial communication networks
- Demonstrated expertise in applicable Australian and international codes,



standards and engineering practices
- Working knowledge of Functional Safety principles including IEC 61511 lifecycle activities, SIL assessments and Safety Requirement Specifications
- Working knowledge of industrial cybersecurity requirements and IEC 62443 principles.
- Experience using SPI and other engineering design tools for development of Instrument and Control deliverables
- Proficiency in sizing and specification of flow measurement devices, control valves and safety valves
- Strong understanding of risk management and engineering assurance processes.
- Proven capability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and mentor engineers
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and client engagement skills.
- Excellent analytical, technical report writing and problem-solving abilities.

As this position involves professional engineering services in Victoria, applicants must hold current Registered Professional Engineer Victoria (RPEV) registration in the Electrical Engineering Area of Practice at the time of application. Candidates who do not hold RPEV registration will not be considered Candidates must have full work rights in Australia to be considered for this role.
