The Role – 9-12 month fixed-term contract (FTC) n
The Deputy General Counsel is a senior member of the Legal and Governance team, working closely with the General Counsel to provide strategic, commercially focused legal advice across the organisation.
n
With a particular focus on funding agreements, complex commercial contracts, commonwealth/public law, governance, and compliance, this is a fascinating slant on a traditional energy projects role.
n
In this role you will:
n
n
- Draft, negotiate, and advise on complex funding agreements and commercial contracts
n
- Advise on procurement, privacy, governance , and legislative compliance
n
- Advise on obligations as a corporate Commonwealth entity , including under the AREA Act and PGPA Act.
n
- Support the General Counsel in managing external legal advisors and external legal support
n
- Advise on disputes, negotiations, litigation,
and settlement recommendations
n
- Provid legal input into Board and Committee matters, policies and delegation frameworks
n
- Develop and improve legal policies, procedures, templates, and tools
n
- Supervise and mentor junior lawyers and support staff
n
- Build strong relationships across the organisation and provide practical legal advice that enables delivery rather that just identifying risk
n
The Candidate n
The successful candidate will have:
n
n
- 4-7 years PAE
n
- Strong commercial contracting experience , with ability to independently draft and negotiate complex agreements
n
- Solid knowledge of public and administrative law , contract law , and corporate governance
n
- Exposure to the PGPA Act , Government procurement , funding/grant agreements , and Commonwealth governance frameworks
n
- Strong commercial judgement - someone who can provide a recommendation rather than simply identifying risk
n
- Comfortability operating with senior executives, and key internal stakeholders
n
- Experience supervising, mentoring, or developing lawyers
n
