Your opportunity n
Working alongside our Residential Aged Care clinical teams and Chaplains and Pastoral Carers, you’ll provide professional counselling and support to residents and families experiencing grief and bereavement.
n
You’ll work collaboratively with residents and families to understand their individual needs, develop achievable support plans and facilitate the grieving process with empathy and sensitivity.
n
Your impact will extend beyond individual counselling. You’ll also support Residential Aged Care employees to understand their own vulnerability when working with grief and loss, promoting practical self-care strategies and strengthening the capability of our teams to respond compassionately to bereavement.
With integrity and compassion, you will n
n
- Provide specialist grief and bereavement counselling and support to residents and their families.
n
- Advocate for residents and families while acknowledging and facilitating their individual grieving process.
n
- Develop individual case plans with residents and families, establishing clear and achievable outcomes.
n
- Provide education and support to Residential Aged Care employees around grief, vulnerability and self-care.
n
- Identify complex grief and establish strong external referral pathways to ensure people can access specialist support when required.
n
- Develop resources that promote awareness and accessibility of grief and bereavement support across Residential Aged Care Homes.
n
- Maintain accurate client documentation and statistical information using appropriate evidence-based tools.
n
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the service through professional development, policies, procedures and work practices.

What you’ll brin g n
You’re a compassionate and emotionally grounded counsellor who understands that grief is deeply personal and that there is no single way to experience loss.
n
You will bring the clinical capability to support people through grief and bereavement, alongside the empathy and sensitivity required to build trust during vulnerable moments.
n
You can remain calm when supporting people experiencing distress, establish rapport with residents and families and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
n
Importantly, you’ll understand the particular needs of older people and families navigating challenges in ageing, including living with dementia, and those who care for them.
What’s requir ed: n
n
- Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work or Counselling.
n
- Membership of PACFA registered organisation, AASW, APS or similar professional body.
n
- Training and clinical experience in grief and bereavement counselling.
n
- Previous demonstrated experience in assessment and counselling.
n
- Awareness of the needs and challenges of people living with dementia and their families.
n
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
n
- Current NSW Driver’s Licence.
n
- Ability to meet Anglicare’s probity requirements, including a Police Check and Working with Children Check.
