Job Description

Role Title: Senior Kafka Administrator / Developer

n

Location: Sydney, NSW

Role Summary n

The Senior Kafka Administrator / Developer will design, build, operate and improve

n

enterprise Kafka and event-streaming platforms across AWS and Kubernetes, including

n

Amazon EKS. The role requires strong hands‑on Kafka administration, integration

n

development, cloud‑native operations and production support experience.

n

The role works closely with application, integration, cloud, security and operations

n

teams to deliver reliable event‑driven solutions, resolve complex issues, automate

n

repeatable tasks and support platform lifecycle, governance and service improvement

n

activities.

Key Responsibilities n

n
- Administer and support Kafka platforms, including brokers, topics, partitions,
n
- replication, consumer groups, Kafka Connect, Schema Registry and related
n
- services.
n
- Design and develop Kafka producers, consumers, stream‑processing
n
- components and reusable integration patterns using Java, Spring Boot, Python
n
- or similar technologies.
n
- Deploy, operate and improve Kafka and supporting components on Kubernetes
n
- and Amazon EKS using Helm, CI/CD, GitOps and approved cloud‑native
n
- patterns.
n
- Manage platform reliability, resilience, capacity, performance, patching,
n
- upgrades, backup, recovery and lifecycle activities across production and non‑
n
- Troubleshoot complex issues across applications, brokers, connectors, schemas,
n
- networking, storage, certificates and cloud infrastructure.
n




- Implement monitoring, alerting and dashboards for broker health, throughput,
n
- latency, replication, disk usage, consumer lag and connector health.
n
- Apply security & governance controls, including TLS, authentication,
n
- authorisation, ACLs, secrets, certificates, least‑privilege access and vulnerability
n
- remediation.
n
- Support incidents, problems, changes and releases, including root‑cause
n
- analysis, runbook improvement and automation of recurring operational tasks.
n
- Guide application teams on topic design, partitioning, message contracts,
n
- schema evolution, retries, dead‑letter handling, idempotency and supportability.
n

- Maintain architecture, configuration, operational, recovery and support
n
- documentation.
n

Technical Leadership n

Act as the senior technical point of contact for Kafka platform design, engineering

n

and operational matters.

n

Mentor engineers, review technical work and promote consistent engineering and

n

operational standards.

n

Lead planning for upgrades, migrations, resilience improvements and platform

n

modernisation.

n

Communicate risks, dependencies,



options and recommendations clearly to

n

technical and business stakeholders.

Key Skills & Experience Technical Experience n

n
- Strong hands‑on experience administering Apache Kafka or Confluent Platform
n
- Solid understanding of Kafka brokers, topics, partitions, replication, consumer
n
- groups, Kafka Connect, Schema Registry and MirrorMaker.
n
- Experience developing Kafka producers, consumers and integration services
n
- using Java, Spring Boot, Python or equivalent technologies.
n
- Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes and Amazon EKS, including Docker,
n
- Helm, storage, networking, ingress, secrets and identity integration.
n
- Working knowledge of AWS services such as EKS, EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch,
n
- Route 53 and core networking services.
n
- Experience with CI/CD, GitOps and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Jenkins,
n
- Argo CD, Terraform or CloudFormation.
n
- Robust Linux, networking, TLS, DNS, certificate and distributed‑systems
n
- troubleshooting capability.
n
- Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch,
n
- Dynatrace, Splunk or equivalent.
n

- Public
n
- Degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or related
n
- AWS, Azure, ITIL, Kubernetes, Database, or relevant technology certifications.
n
- Experience managing large‑scale enterprise or government technology
n
- Experience with hybrid cloud, platform modernization, and operational
n
