Your next career chance

In this key leadership role as Interim Academic Lead (St Vincent’s Hospital), you will provide high-level academic direction across internal medical specialist units and affiliated hospital services.

Reporting to the Head of the Department of Medicine and sitting on the Department Executive Team, you will develop and deliver innovative research, research training, and educational programs in Internal Medicine while strengthening vital clinical partnerships.

What you will deliver:

- Provide strategic academic leadership and management across St Vincent's Hospital-affiliated hospitals and services.
- Establish and implement cutting-edge research, research training, and educational programs in Internal Medicine aligned with Faculty Impact Domains.
- Drive collaborative, cross-disciplinary research initiatives and secure competitive national and international research grants (e.g., MRFF, NHMRC, NIH).
- Support and enhance student learning experiences, educational quality, and the supervision of Graduate Researchers and clinician-scientists.
- Foster strong executive relationships between the University, St Vincent's Hospital, industry partners,



and professional bodies.
- Oversee team performance, staff development, mentoring, and workload allocations in accordance with University standards and policies.

You may be a great fit if you:

- Hold current clinical registration, membership of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (RACP), and a PhD in medicine or a related field.
- Demonstrate pre-eminence as an internationally recognised scholar with a high-impact portfolio of research outputs in medicine.
- Bring proven high-level academic and clinical leadership experience in university and hospital settings.
- Possess a track record of securing significant competitive research funding as a Chief Investigator and building impactful industry/clinical partnerships.
- Exhibit strong skills in mentoring junior clinician-researchers and guiding Graduate Researchers to successful outcomes.
- Demonstrate exceptional stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build alignment across hospital executives, multidisciplinary clinical teams, and academic bodies.

You will join the Department of Medicine within the Melbourne Medical School, embedded at the St Vincent’s Hospital campus.

Working as part of the Department Executive Team, you will lead a dedicated group of clinical academics, researchers, and professional staff.

You will collaborate closely with hospital leaders and multidisciplinary specialty teams to integrate cutting-edge medical research, teaching, and clinical care.
