Ungooroo Aboriginal Corporation has received funding for a Aboriginal Families First Initiative - 2000 Days program to support Aboriginal women, children and families from pregnancy through to a child’s early years.

We are looking for an Aboriginal Health Worker / Aboriginal Health Practitioner who understands the importance of culture, connection and trust in achieving positive health and wellbeing outcomes.
About the role n
Your role will include:
n
n
- Building strong and respectful relationships with Aboriginal women, children and families
n
- Supporting families throughout pregnancy and the early years of a child's life
n
- Providing culturally appropriate health information, education and support
n
- Supporting engagement with antenatal, postnatal, child health and allied health services
n
- Helping families navigate health and community services
n
- Supporting referrals and connections to appropriate services
n
- Identifying barriers that may prevent families from accessing care
n
- Supporting families to attend appointments and engage with services where appropriate
n
- Promoting healthy lifestyles,
child development and family wellbeing
n
- Working alongside clinicians to support culturally safe service delivery
n
- Contributing cultural knowledge and community perspective to the multidisciplinary team
n
- Supporting communication between families and service providers
n
- Maintaining appropriate records and documentation within the scope of the role
n
- Participating in community engagement and health promotion activities.
n
n
The role will be guided by the individual needs of families and the broader goals of the Aboriginal Families First Initiative - 2000 Days program.
About you n
We are looking for someone who:
n
n
- Identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, with strong connections to Aboriginal community and culture- (This role is an Aboriginal Identified position in accordance with section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination act, 1977).
n
- Holds relevant qualifications as an Aboriginal Health Worker and/or Aboriginal Health Practitioner
n
- Has experience working in Aboriginal health, community services or a related environment
n
- Builds relationships based on trust, respect and genuine connection
n
- Understands the importance of cultural safety
n
- Is approachable,
reliable and compassionate
n
- Can work confidently as part of a multidisciplinary team
n
- Is able to advocate for families and help remove barriers to accessing services
n
- Has a strong understanding of confidentiality and skilled boundaries
n
- Is comfortable working with families who may have complex or multiple support needs.
n
n
Experience working with women, children and families will be highly regarded.
