Senior Project Engineer – Major Capital Projects n

This Pilbara Shire is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join our Major Capital Projects (MCP) team. You'll take ownership of significant capital works across roads, bridges, buildings, land development, water and wastewater infrastructure — delivering projects from inception through to commissioning while balancing time, cost and quality.

About the role n

Reporting to the Executive Manager Major Capital Projects, you will manage technically complex, high-value projects with multiple stakeholders. You'll also play a key role in lifting the team's capability by developing systems, tools and processes that drive better project outcomes.

Key responsibilities include: n

- Leading the full project lifecycle for allocated Major Capital Projects (planning, design, procurement, delivery and commissioning)
n
- Undertaking technical assessments, preparing business cases, and reviewing complex engineering drawings and specifications
n
- Developing high-quality project documentation including delivery plans, risk management plans, stakeholder engagement plans and procurement strategies
n
- Managing consultants and contractors through the Shire's procurement processes, including tender evaluation and contract administration
n
- Providing clear technical advice and ensuring strong project governance, reporting and commercial management
n
- Proactively identifying and mitigating project and organisational risks
n




- Mentoring junior team members and contributing to continuous improvement across the MCP function
n
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external regulators, consultants and contractors
n
- Ensuring all projects are delivered safely, sustainably and with consideration for long-term operations and maintenance
n

Experience: nn
- Proven experience in project management of civil or infrastructure projects (local government experience highly regarded)
n
- Strong contract management experience with consultants and contractors
n
- The ability to interpret and explain complex engineering drawings
n
- Sound knowledge of local government infrastructure and delivery environments
n
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and stakeholder management skills
n
- Robust self-management, organisational and time-management abilities
n
- Competent use of Microsoft Office and relevant engineering/project software
n
- Current WA 'C' Class Driver's Licence
n

Desirable: nn
- Minimum 5 - 10 years' experience in Civil Engineering, Project Management or Contract Management
n
- Previous local government or public sector project experience
n
- Exposure to financial and budget management
n
- Postgraduate qualifications in engineering, project management or related fields
n
- Eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia
n
