The Opportunity
n
Cochlear has an chance for a Senior Manufacturing Process Automation Engineer to join our team in Macquarie University, NSW.
n
In this role, you'll use your process engineering expertise to develop, implement and scale custom automation solutions for a regulated manufacturing environment. You'll work closely with automation partners and cross-functional teams to improve manufacturing processes, introduce new technologies and ensure solutions are robust, validated and ready for production.
n
You'll play a key role in process improvement, technology introduction, validation and manufacturing scale-up, helping Cochlear deliver capable, compliant and scalable manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities include: n
n
- Lead automation deployment projects from design through to production implementation.
n
- Develop equipment and process requirements, including Engineering Requirement Specifications (ERS).
n
- Execute and support process validation activities, including IQ, OQ and PQ protocols.
n
- Drive yield improvement initiatives through data analysis, process optimisation and risk management.
n
- Collaborate with automation vendors and internal stakeholders on robotics and machine vision solutions.
n
- Support new product introduction (NPI), technology transfer and continuous improvement activities.
n
- 3-5 years' experience within a regulated manufacturing environment, such as medical devices, pharmaceuticals,
diagnostics, aerospace or semiconductor industries.
n
- Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
n
- Demonstrated experience leading automation deployment projects into production environments.
n
- Hands-on experience in process validation, including IQ, OQ and PQ execution.
n
- Experience developing Engineering Requirement Specifications (ERS) and translating business requirements into technical solutions.
n
- Strong understanding of risk management methodologies, including PFMEA and process controls.
n
- Experience delivering process improvements, yield optimisation and statistical analysis.
n
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively across teams and with external automation partners
n
Ideal: nn
- Experience with industrial robotics implementation and automated manufacturing systems.
n
- Knowledge of machine vision systems and equipment characterisation.
n
- Experience participating in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
n
- Familiarity with PLC and HMI-based control systems.
n
- Exposure to technology transfer and new product introduction (NPI) activities.
n
- Basic scripting capability in Python, Lua or similar languages.
n
- Experience coaching or mentoring junior engineers and graduates.
n
n
