Job Description n
We are looking for a passionate and experienced Training Officer to join our People & Culture team, based at our Darwin Support Office.
n
In this hands‑on role, you will deliver and assess accredited retail training programs to help local store staff develop their skills, confidence and career opportunities.
n
You will work closely with trainees, Store Managers and the Training team, providing both face‑to‑face and virtual training and support. Regular travel to remote communities is a key part of this role, with trips of up to a week at a time.
Key Responsibilities n
n
- Deliver and assess accredited retail training programs in remote Aboriginal communities.
n
- Provide trainees with engaging and flexible face‑to‑face and virtual training and support.
n
- Monitor trainee progress, provide regular feedback and support trainees to successfully complete their training.
n
- Conduct Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessments and provide appropriate learning support.
n
- Work with Store Managers to identify and recruit potential trainees.
n
- Plan and coordinate training visits in line with program and contractual requirements.
n
- Support VET in Schools programs through school visits and practical training.
n
- Build strong relationships with trainees, Store Managers, Apprenticeships Support Officers and other key stakeholders.
n
- Maintain accurate student records and data using VETtrak.
n
- Support training compliance, validation and continuous improvement activities in line with RTO requirements.
n
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of training resources and delivery methods.
n
Desired Skills and Experience n
What We’re Looking For

- TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
n
- SIR40316 Certificate IV in Retail Management.
n
- Strong training, assessment, mentoring and coaching skills.
n
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
n
- Strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills.
n
- High cultural intelligence, particularly when working with Australian Indigenous cultures and communities.
n
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
n
- Strong computer literacy with the ability to gather, interpret and report data.
n
- A practical, hands‑on approach with strong problem‑solving skills.
n
- Working with Children Check and National Police Certificate, or the ability to obtain them.
n
- Willingness and ability to regularly travel to remote communities for up to a week at a time.
n
- Minimum two years’ experience in a training role, with proven experience as a trainer and assessor.
n
- Experience working effectively with people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
n
- Experience using the VETtrak student management system.
n
- HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain it.
n
- SIT20322 Certificate II in Hospitality or SIT30622 Certificate III in Hospitality, or the ability to obtain either qualification.
n
- SITHFAB021 Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol, or the ability to obtain it.
n
- Experience working in a changing retail environment.
n
- Previous experience working with Indigenous people is highly regarded.
n
