About the role n
n We're looking for a hands‑on Mechanical Technician (HcD Technician) to join our Mining Services team based in Townsville, Queensland .
n In this role, you'll support Orica's underground blasting technology and customer‑operated systems through maintenance, troubleshooting, equipment commissioning, and technical support across Queensland and the Pacific region.
n This is an excellent opportunity for qualified tradespeople looking to apply their technical skills in a new industry. Whether your background is in automotive electrical, light vehicle automotive, heavy vehicle maintenance, manufacturing, hydraulics, industrial equipment, or mining , we'll support you to develop your knowledge of underground blasting operations and specialised mining equipment.
n Working on a 15/13 roster , you'll enjoy a high level of autonomy while providing technical support to customers, conducting site visits, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring equipment reliability and performance.
What you will be doing n
n
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair underground blasting equipment, including Hypercharge Drive Units (HcD) and associated systems;
n
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and control system faults;
n
- Provide practical technical support and advice to customers, both on‑site and remotely;
n
- Respond to breakdowns and support customers during critical operational situations;
n
- Perform equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, and maintenance audits;
n
- Assist with installation, commissioning, and testing of new equipment and systems;
n
- Build strong customer relationships through professional service and technical expertise;
n
- Coach and support customers on the safe and effective operation of equipment;
n
- Maintain accurate service records and reports;
n
- Work safely while complying with site, customer, and Orica standards.

What you will bring n

- Strong hands‑on experience in maintaining mobile or fixed plant equipment;
n
- Practical skills in mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical systems;
n
- Ability to diagnose issues and solve problems independently;
n
- Confidence working on‑site and managing your own workload;
n
- Transparent communication skills when supporting customers or teams;
n
- A safety‑first mindset and understanding of safe work practices.

n Bonus if you have:
n
n
- Underground or mining environment experience;
n
- Experience supporting customers or training others;
n
- Exposure to blasting, drilling, or similar equipment.
