Katherine Town Council is seeking a motivated and community-minded Library Officer to join the Katherine Public Library team.
n
Reporting to the Community Relations Coordinator, this varied role provides high-quality customer service and supports the day-to-day operation of the library. You will assist people of all ages and backgrounds to access library collections, computers, Wi-Fi, printing, scanning, information services and self-service technologies.

You will also help deliver library programs, events and school holiday activities that encourage learning, participation and connection across the Katherine community.

About the role n
Your key responsibilities will include:
n
n
- n
Providing friendly and professional service to library patrons.
n
- n
Processing library memberships, loans, returns and payments.
n
- n
Assisting patrons with computers, Wi‑Fi, printing, scanning and other technologies.
n
- n
Shelving and organising books and maintaining the library collection.
n
- n
Processing new stock, identifying damaged items and assisting with stocktakes.
n
- n
Supporting library programs, events and school holiday activities.
n
- n
Promoting library services and encouraging community participation.
n
- n
Opening and closing the library as required.
n
- n
Maintaining a clean, safe, organised and welcoming setting.
n
- n
Receiving and balancing financial transactions in accordance with Council procedures.
n
About you n
You will be approachable, reliable and comfortable assisting people from a wide range of backgrounds. You will enjoy working as part of a team while also being able to complete tasks independently.

You will have:

- n
A demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service.
n
- n
Sound written and verbal communication skills.
n
- n
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to relate respectfully to diverse community members.
n
- n
Good literacy, numeracy and keyboard skills.
n
- n
Basic knowledge of customer‑service principles and common software platforms.
n
- n
The ability to follow procedures and understand relevant legislation, Council policies and local laws.
n
- n
The ability to work both cooperatively within a team and independently.
n
- n
Availability to work weekends.
n
- n
A current Working with Children Clearance, or the ability to obtain one if required.
n
n
A relevant certificate qualification or previous experience in a library, customer service or related position will be highly regarded.
n
