Job Description
Burnie Plumbing Supplies is a plumbing showroom and workshop located at Burnie in Tasmania. They are seeking an experienced Welder (First Class) to join their team. The Role n
The Welder (First Class) is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing metal components and structures using a range of welding and fabrication techniques. This is a full-time position with an annual salary of $80,000 to $85,000 plus superannuation. The role is based in Burnie in Tasmania.
The Responsibilities n

- Select and prepare appropriate welding equipment, consumables, and materials for welding operations.
n
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, welding procedures, and specifications to determine welding requirements.
n
- Set up and operate MIG welding equipment to weld, join, and repair metal components and structures.
n
- Position and secure workpieces to ensure accurate alignment and welding in accordance with specifications.
n
- Perform welding operations on various metal components while maintaining required quality and safety standards.
n
- Inspect completed welds to ensure compliance with specified dimensions, quality requirements, and welding standards.
n
- Repair defective welds and damaged metal components through grinding, gouging, and rewelding processes.
n
- Perform weld finishing activities, including grinding and dressing welds to achieve the required finish and appearance.
n
- Use measuring and testing instruments to verify weld quality, accuracy, and compliance with specifications.
n
- Carry out welding repairs and maintenance on metal structures, machinery, equipment, and related components.
n
- Clean and prepare metal surfaces before and after welding to ensure quality.
n
- Conduct routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of welding equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
n
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures, welding safety requirements, and relevant industry regulations at all times.
n
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, engineers, inspectors, and other trades personnel to complete welding tasks efficiently.
n
- Maintain accurate records of welding activities, inspections, repairs, materials used, and work completed.
n
The Requirements nn
- Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade or equivalent qualification
n
- Minimum 2 years' experience as a Welder (First Class) or within metal fabrication environments
n
- At least 2 years' experience performing MIG, TIG, and arc welding across structural steel and fabricated metal components
n
- At least 2 years' experience with the three main types of welding:
n
- Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)
n
- Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
n
- Flux-cored Arc Welding (FCAW)
n
- Minimum 2 years' experience interpreting engineering drawings, fabrication plans, and technical specifications
n
- At least 2 years' experience operating fabrication machinery, welding equipment, and metalworking tools
n
- At least 2 years' experience assembling, repairing, and finishing fabricated metal products to engineering standards
n
- Strong knowledge of welding procedures, fabrication methods, and metal finishing techniques
n
- Ability to identify welding defects, dimensional inconsistencies, and fabrication issues accurately
n
- Strong understanding of workplace safety procedures, fabrication compliance standards, and workshop operations
n
- Positive communication skills and ability to work effectively within fabrication and engineering teams
n
- High attention to detail and commitment to precision workmanship
