Regional Liaison Officer | Casual | Cooktown, QLD n
Looking for a role that’s more than just a job? This is your chance to support and advocate for workers from Pacific Island nations while they live and work in Australia under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility Scheme (PALMS).

As a Casual Liaison Officer, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring workers feel supported, safe, and connected - both on and off the job.
About the Role n
This is a hands-on, people-first position where no two days look the same. You’ll be the trusted point of contact for PALMS workers, providing pastoral care and practical support across a range of areas.
n
This is a casual role, offering flexibility, but it does require availability outside standard business hours & weekends to respond to worker needs, arrivals, emergencies, and key support activities.Because some worker needs can be urgent or time-sensitive, being locally based and readily able to provide face-to-face support in the Cooktown area is important.
What You’ll Be Doing n
n
- Building strong, supportive relationships with PALMS workers
n
- Providing pastoral care including support with:n n
- Medical appointments and wellbeing
n
- Accommodation and transport
n
- Workplace matters and advocacy
n
- Community connection (including church attendance)
n
n
- Assisting with arrivals, inductions, and departures
n
- Being available for after-hours support when required
n
- Conducting regular check-ins and accommodation inspections
n
- Supporting worker wellbeing, safety, and productivity
n
- Acting as a key link between workers, MADEC, and host employers
n
- Promoting a strong safety culture and supporting WHS processes
n
About You n

- Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities

- Strong local knowledge and community connections
n
- Empathy, patience, and a natural ability to build trust

- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

- The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities

- Confidence using various computer systems (Word, Excel, email) and report writing
n
Requirements nn
- Current National Police Check
n
- Current driver’s licence (essential for transporting workers)
n
