A Federal Government Department is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to support and maintain critical enterprise infrastructure services across on-premises and hybrid cloud environments. Federal Government Canberra Location Contract Opportunity About the Role n

As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing support of enterprise infrastructure platforms and services. You will play a key role in ensuring the availability, performance, security, and continuous improvement of infrastructure systems while collaborating closely with technical teams, business stakeholders, and external vendors.

Key Responsibilities n

- Design, implement, maintain, and support enterprise infrastructure services, including: n n
- Server platforms
n
- Virtualisation technologies
n
- Storage and backup solutions
n
- Networking services
n
- Identity and access management platforms
n

n
- Monitor infrastructure performance, availability, and capacity to ensure systems remain secure, reliable, and fit for purpose.
n
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure incidents and technical issues.
n
- Develop and maintain automation solutions using scripting and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies.
n
- Implement system upgrades, patches, security remediation activities, and configuration changes.
n
- Contribute to technical documentation, operational procedures,



standards, and infrastructure designs.
n
- Support infrastructure projects, technology refresh programs, and continuous service improvement initiatives.
n
- Collaborate with cloud, cybersecurity, networking, and application teams to deliver integrated technology solutions.
n
- Participate in Incident, Problem, and Change Management processes.
n
- Contribute to on-call support arrangements for critical infrastructure services when required.
n

Essential Skills & Experience nn
- Demonstrated experience administering and supporting enterprise infrastructure services across on-premises and hybrid environments.
n
- Strong experience with server administration, virtualisation, storage, backup, networking, and identity management technologies.
n
- Proven experience deploying, maintaining, patching, and troubleshooting infrastructure services within large-scale ICT environments.
n
- Sound understanding of infrastructure security, vulnerability management, risk management, and compliance requirements.
n
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
n
- Experience working within Incident, Problem, and Change Management frameworks.
n




- Ability to produce high-quality technical and operational documentation.
n
- Must be based in or willing to work from Canberra.
n

Desirable Experience nn
- Microsoft Azure and hybrid cloud environments.
n
- Infrastructure automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) technologies.
n
- Cloud telephony, unified communications, or collaboration platforms.
n
- Enterprise management and vulnerability management tools such as MECM, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Ivanti, or similar technologies.
n
- Microsoft Active Directory, Entra ID, Exchange, and identity management services.
n
- Knowledge of Australian Government cybersecurity frameworks, including ISM, PSPF, and Essential Eight.
n
- ITIL, TOGAF, or other relevant industry certifications.
n

Security Clearance n

To be eligible for this role, candidates must hold a current Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) Security Clearance .
