Our Client n

Our client is an established Australian infrastructure and construction business delivering major projects across a range of sectors.

n

With a significant pipeline of live project work, the business offers an operationally focused environment where Legal works closely with commercial and project teams. This provides exposure to the practical delivery of complex projects and an prospect to advise from contract formation through the broader project lifecycle.

The Role n

This 18-month fixed-term contract will see you join an established legal team and take a senior role advising across construction, commercial contracting and broader project-related matters.

With a strong front-end focus, you will work closely with commercial and operational teams to negotiate agreements, navigate complex contractual issues and provide practical advice that supports project delivery.

Key responsibilities will include: n

- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating construction contracts across different contracting models;
n
- Advising on head contracts, sub-contracts and associated project documentation;
n




- Reviewing and negotiating broader commercial contracts and supply agreements;
n
- Advising on guarantees, warranties, insurance and other contractual risk matters;
n
- Providing practical legal support to project, commercial and operational teams;
n
- Identifying and managing contractual and broader legal risks;
n
- Building strong relationships across the business and operating as a trusted commercial adviser; and
n
- Engaging with external legal advisers where specialist support is required.

The project portfolio includes a range of active civil construction work, including disaster and cyclone recovery projects, providing exposure to challenging, real-world project issues rather than a purely head-office advisory practice.

About You n

You will be a senior commercial or construction lawyer who is comfortable taking ownership of matters and providing clear, practical advice in a technical environment.

You will ideally bring: n

n
- 7+ PQE, with flexibility for candidates demonstrating the required capability;
n
- Strong front-end construction and commercial contracting experience;
n
- Experience across different construction contract models;
n
- A sound understanding of the relationship between head contracts and sub-contracts;
n
- Experience with commercial contracts, supply arrangements, guarantees and insurance-related matters;
n
- Strong negotiation, drafting and stakeholder management skills; and
n
- Judgement to navigate complex contractual and operational issues independently.
