Our client is a leading Australian law firm with a highly regarded tax practice.

The Team n

The Indirect Tax team acts for a broad client base, including multinational and listed companies, major developers, financial institutions and government bodies.

n

The practice covers GST advisory and disputes, transaction structuring, M&A;, property and infrastructure, and cross-border matters. The team also advises on GST risk reviews, ATO audits, rulings, voluntary disclosures and objections.

The Role n

An excellent opportunity exists for a Senior Associate or Special Counsel to join the firm's Indirect Tax practice in Sydney.

n

Working closely with senior practitioners, you will:

n

n
- Independently run complex GST matters, including audits, investigations and objection processes.
n
- Advise on the indirect tax implications of high-value M&A;, property development and infrastructure transactions.
n
- Assist clients with transaction design and restructuring, with a focus on property and financial services.
n
- Assess indirect tax exposure and obligations arising from international and cross-border dealings.
n
- Lead ATO engagements,



including ruling applications, voluntary disclosures and responses to information requests.
n
- Partner directly with senior stakeholders to identify risks and provide commercially practical solutions.
n
- Support the development of junior lawyers and play an active role in client development and broader practice initiatives.
n

Requirements n

The ideally candidate will have 6+ years' post-admission experience in taxation law with a strong focus on indirect tax and GST.

n

Additionally, you will have:

n

- Experience managing complex tax matters with a high level of autonomy.
n
- Experience in transaction structuring and cross-border tax matters.
n
- Solid commercial judgement and the ability to translate complex tax issues into practical advice.
n
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
n
- Experience supervising and developing junior lawyers.
n
- An interest in business development and building long-term client relationships.
n
