Assistant Workshop Controller - Westar Trucks Campbellfield
Westar Trucks Campbellfield is seeking an Assistant Workshop Controller to support the daily operations of our busy truck dealership workshop specialising in Isuzu, Western Star, MAN and Dennis Eagle.
Workshop Controller, you'll play a key role in coordinating workflow, supporting technicians and apprentices, assisting with quality control, supporting Service Advising functions when required, and helping ensure customers receive an exceptional service experience.
This is not a management position, but it is a highly influential role suited to someone who enjoys mentoring others, building relationships, adapting to different priorities and helping the workshop operate at its best.

About the Role
Working alongside the Workshop Controller, Service Advisors and Parts team,
you will help coordinate workshop activities and support the successful completion of repairs and maintenance work.
This is a genuinely varied position suited to someone who can adapt to changing priorities throughout the day. You may support workshop productivity and apprentice development one moment, then assist Service Advisors with customer updates, coordinate with Parts, or help manage workflow and quality control the next.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Workshop Controller with daily workshop coordination and workflow
- Guide and monitor technician productivity and repair progress
- Support and encourage apprentice development and training opportunities
- Ensure apprentices are paired with experienced technicians to maximise learning
- Liaise with Service Advisors regarding job progress, repair timelines and customer expectations
- Assist with Service Advising duties and customer communication when required
- Work closely with Parts Interpreters to minimise downtime and keep repairs moving
- Assist with workshop scheduling and job allocation
- Support quality control processes and final vehicle inspections
- Help identify and resolve workshop bottlenecks
- Promote a positive, productive and safety-focused workshop culture
- Provide technical support and guidance when required
About You
You may currently be working as a:
- Truck Foreman
- Leading Hand Technician
- Senior Heavy Vehicle Technician
- Service Advisor with strong technical capability
- Experienced Technician looking to transition off the tools
To succeed in this role, you'll have:
- Strong technical knowledge of trucks, heavy vehicles or commercial vehicles
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to build credibility and positively influence others
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities
- A genuine interest in supporting apprentice and technician development
- The confidence to work across Parts, Service and Workshop departments
- High attention to quality, safety and customer satisfaction
- Current driver's licence
