Ballarat East

Reports to: Executive Manager Community and Public Health

Employment type: Ongoing

Time fraction: Full time

Salary: $60.19 per hour or $118,944.28 per annum FTE

Are you an experienced health promotion leader who sees opportunities, brings people together and knows how to turn good ideas into action?

Ballarat Community Health is looking for a Manager Healthy Communities to provide leadership to our prevention, health promotion and health protection work.

We're looking for someone who is curious about what's possible. Someone prepared to ask "why do we do it this way?", look to the evidence, listen to communities and partners, and find new and better ways to improve health and wellbeing.

This is an opportunity to lead a high-performing team, shape the future direction of our prevention work and build partnerships that create meaningful and sustainable change across our community.

About the job

As Manager Healthy Communities, you'll provide both strategic and operational leadership across BCH's prevention, health promotion and health protection work, with responsibility for program delivery, people leadership, stakeholder engagement, governance, budgets and reporting.

But this role is about more than managing what already exists.

We want you to look ahead: to understand emerging health and wellbeing needs, identify opportunities for innovation and growth, and help us continually strengthen the way we work. You'll bring together evidence, data, community knowledge and fresh thinking to develop approaches that are relevant, effective and capable of making a genuine difference.

Partnership is central to the role. You’ll build strong relationships across government, health and community services, education, workplaces, funders and community organisations. We're looking for someone who understands that effective health promotion rarely happens in isolation, and who enjoys bringing people and organisations together around a shared purpose.

You’ll also lead and support an established, high-performing team, creating an environment where people are encouraged to think creatively, use evidence,

collaborate and deliver work they are proud of.

About you

You are an experienced health promotion or public health leader who can see the big picture and make things happen.

You're likely to have significant experience leading health promotion and prevention work within community health, local government or a similar setting, together with a strong understanding of public health and the social model of health.

Just as importantly, you will:

- be a strategic and curious thinker who is comfortable questioning established approaches and exploring new possibilities;
- be able to translate ideas into practical action and take initiatives from concept through to implementation and evaluation;
- value evidence-informed practice, using evidence, data and community insight to guide decisions and measure impact;
- be an accomplished collaborator who genuinely values partnerships and knows how to build trusted relationships across organisations and sectors;
- be an engaging and supportive people leader who can bring out the best in an already capable team;
- understand health inequity and the importance of addressing the social factors that influence health;
- bring energy, flexibility and optimism, while remaining focused on outcomes, accountability and sustainable impact;
- have a Graduate or postgraduate health professional qualifications and/or management qualifications with relevant health/public health related experience; and
- desirably have registration as a IUHPE Health Promotion Practitioner (or working towards).
