PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Executive General Manager, Product & Underwriting, is accountable for designing, managing and
optimising the Company's product portfolio in line with the Risk Appetite Statement and Product
Strategy. Additionally, the role is responsible for developing and delivering best-in-class risk selection
capability, leveraging internal and external data sources and leading-edge technology solutions. This
role acts as a driver of change in the business through the timely delivery of projects and continuous
improvement, securing sustainable growth for the Company.

RISK ACCOUNTABILITIES RELEVANT TO YOUR LINE OF DEFENCE
Line 1 Business
The First Line of Defence is accountable for adhering to the A&G; Risk Management Framework and
owns the risks, obligations, issues, and incidents within their area of responsibility, including their
resolution.
The key elements of the first line of defence:
? Accountability: Responsible for ensuring that their activities align with the organisation's risk
management framework. First line "Accountable Executives" are accountable for the risks within
their business.
? Ownership: Primary owners of risks, obligations, issues, and incidents that arise within their
operations.
? Resolution: Responsible for taking action to mitigate risks, address issues, and resolve incidents.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
? Strategically and operationally lead the Motor, Home & Lifestyle Product & Underwriting teams,
creating high performance with a high-integrity culture aligned with the A&G; Way. A core
element of this accountability is attracting, developing and retaining talent.
? In consultation with relevant stakeholders, including the Chief Product Officer, develop and
execute against a Product & Underwriting Strategy that supports the Company's vision to be
Australia’s Best Insurer.
? Implementing mechanisms to monitor trends in product development, locally and
internationally, appropriately responding to opportunities to ensure that product settings are
aligned with the product strategy, including how products are positioned.
? Implement mechanisms to monitor approaches to risk selection and identify and act on
opportunities to leverage data and technology to achieve a global best-practice underwriting
model.
? Develop a superior understanding of underwriting performance, identifying and appropriately
addressing issues and opportunities. This includes careful monitoring and management of
exposure to natural hazards.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

? Ensure products and processes fully comply with relevant regulatory obligations, including the
Corporations Act,



Product Design & Distribution Obligations, the Insurance Contracts Act, and
the General Insurance Code of Practice.
? Lead with authority across change management and project governance — cutting through
competing priorities, keeping portfolio performance on track, and acting swiftly on emerging
risks. Ensure critical service provider relationships are managed to the highest standard, with all
contractual and risk obligations met and partnerships built to last, in support of the Motor,
Home & Lifestyle portfolios.
? Leverage current and emerging technology, including artificial intelligence, to deliver against
the position accountabilities and improve operational efficiency.
? In performing these accountabilities, keep internal and external customers at the heart of
decision making, from taking a customer-centric approach to product development, to
designing processes that reduce friction for customers and frontline staff.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
? Must satisfy Auto & General’s fit and proper policy and be eligible to become an ASIC
Responsible Manager.
? 15+ years of experience in senior leadership positions, managing large-scale general insurance
products.
? Expert knowledge of insurance trends and global best practices in relation to product design,
underwriting and pricing, including the drivers and levers of sustainable profitable growth.
? Comprehensive knowledge of relevant regulatory regimes, prudential standards, insurance
legislation and compliance.
? A proven track record of success driving exceptional performance through accountability for
results and a high-performance culture.
? Possesses superior strategic and commercial acumen, with a demonstrated ability to think
strategically at an enterprise level
? Possess a deep understanding of complex business processes, operational challenges, and
drivers of operational effectiveness and efficiency.
? Highly innovative and able to proactively identify and implement transformative solutions to
meet business requirements today and in the future,
? Exceptional stakeholder management, collaboration, and excellent communication skills.
? Proven ability to build credibility and trust in order to engage and influence at executive and
board levels.
? Superior problem-solving ability, capable of dissecting complex, ambiguous challenges and
developing pragmatic, effective solutions.
? A track record of delivering change, including managing both delivery risk and delivered risk.
? Advanced IT literacy and the ability to quickly learn new enterprise systems, with expert skills in
Microsoft Excel and data visualisation tools.
? Demonstrated emotional intelligence and resilience to lead through significant change,
manage complex interpersonal dynamics, and maintain effectiveness under sustained pressure.
