This established Australian manufacturer designs and produces sophisticated electronic products for customers across a range of industries. The business operates in a technically demanding, quality-focused environment and continues to invest in its manufacturing processes, equipment and capabilities.
Due to ongoing operational requirements, an opportunity is available for a hands-on Process Engineer to support surface-mount manufacturing processes, recent product introduction and continuous improvement initiatives.
This is an afternoon position working 3pm - 11pm Monday to Friday.
Your new role
Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will take ownership of the performance, reliability and ongoing improvement of manufacturing processes. Your focus will be ensuring products are manufactured safely, consistently and efficiently, with strong attention to quality, yield and cost.
This is a varied role combining process engineering, equipment support, defect investigation and production improvement. You will work closely with production, quality and engineering teams to introduce new products, resolve manufacturing issues and establish effective assembly methods.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting day-to-day electronics manufacturing operations
- Developing and improving machine programs, process parameters and production profiles
- Assisting with new product introduction and the transfer of products into manufacturing
- Investigating defects and completing structured root-cause analysis
- Monitoring yield, machine utilisation, efficiency and process capability
- Identifying opportunities to reduce defects, rework, downtime and manufacturing cost
- Supporting SMT placement equipment, screen printers, reflow ovens and rework equipment
- Developing process documentation, work instructions and verification reports
- Providing design-for-manufacture feedback to engineering and product teams
- Conducting process trials involving new equipment,
materials or manufacturing methods
- Coordinating jigs, fixtures and other production tooling
- Supporting operator training and providing practical technical guidance
- Conducting time studies and helping establish efficient assembly workflows
- Contributing to quality, safety and environmental improvement initiatives
What you'll need to succeed
Applications are encouraged from specialists, electronics manufacturing professionals and process or manufacturing engineers.
- Formal qualifications in electronics, manufacturing, engineering or a related trade would be beneficial.
- Practical experience within electronics, PCB assembly, PCBA or SMT manufacturing
- Exposure to SMT placement equipment, screen printing, reflow or electronics rework processes
- Experience troubleshooting equipment, process or production issues
- An understanding of process control, defect analysis and continuous improvement
- The ability to interpret manufacturing data and turn findings into practical improvements
- Experience supporting NPI, production transfers or product industrialisation
- Knowledge of ESD, moisture-sensitive devices and electronics manufacturing quality requirements
- Strong problem-solving, planning and communication skills
- The ability to work collaboratively with production, engineering and quality stakeholders
