About us
This fast-growing energy software scale-up is helping some of the world's biggest energy players make smarter investment decisions in the energy transition. Their SaaS platform runs sophisticated simulations of energy assets and markets, used by investors, developers, energy majors and consultancies across Australia, the UK and Europe. Freshly funded and expanding into new markets, the engineering culture is pragmatic startup rather than enterprise perfectionism, with one non-negotiable: accuracy. They'd rather a process fail loudly than let a wrong number reach a customer. Work-life balance is modelled from the top down, high performers are recognised quickly through regular promotion cycles and there's room to grow your profile in the energy industry.
Key responsibilities
- Build and maintain Python data integrations that bring energy market data from around the world into the platform, from clean APIs through to messy flat files and regulator websites
- Process and standardise high volumes of time series data (prices, forecasts and asset-level interval data) so customers can trust every number in their models
- Add new energy markets as the business expands across Europe and beyond, extending an existing serverless processing framework
- Contribute to a newly funded Australian project collecting and processing grid capacity and constraint data, including some spatial data
- Write well-tested,
strongly typed code and help shape how the data platform evolves, including making data accessible to customers through AI-driven tools
About you
- Experience with ETL/ELT pipelines and both structured and unstructured data stores
- Exposure to ClickHouse, DuckDB or Glue/Athena
- Hands-on data processing with Polars, pandas, NumPy or similar, ideally on large time series datasets
- Solid commercial experience with test-driven software engineering in Python
- Experience collecting and transforming data from a range of sources, whether APIs, databases, flat file dumps or less structured sources
- Fluency with typing in Python (pydantic, mypy or similar)
- Strong collaborative engineering habits: Git, code reviews, automated checks and pipelines
- A blend of software engineering and data engineering experience
Benefits
- Competitive base salary + an annual performance bonus + share options
- Annual company retreat with colleagues from across Australia, the UK and Europe
- One anchor day a week in a central Perth office with flexible, trust-based working
- Work alongside and report to an experienced Data Tech Lead, with transparent technical progression and mid-year as well as annual performance reviews
- A team that's genuinely leaning into AI and agentic engineering, with premium AI tooling provided
