The Green Life Soil Co is looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable horticulturist or permaculturalist to join our team in a full-time, customer-facing role. A large part of the role involves talking with customers about their gardens, helping identify problems and recommending practical solutions. This is also a hands-on retail and administration role involving serving customers in store and over the phone, responding to email enquiries, processing sales and invoices, maintaining stock records and using computer-based point-of-sale and inventory systems.
Key responsibilities
- Providing knowledgeable, friendly customer service in store and over the phone
- Helping customers troubleshoot gardening problems and select appropriate products
- Responding to customer enquiries by email
- Processing sales, orders and invoices
- Using POS and stock inventory systems accurately
- Receiving and maintaining stock and keeping the retail area well presented
- Caring for plants in the small nursery section
- Helping customers load bags and other products
- Working flexibly with other team members as priorities change throughout the day
About you
- Has sound practical horticultural knowledge and experience
- Has horticultural qualifications and/or a strong background in permaculture
- Has a genuine interest in organic and sustainable gardening
- Enjoys working with people and helping them solve gardening problems
- Can communicate horticultural information clearly and practically
- Is confident using computers and learning new software
- Is comfortable working with point-of-sale, invoicing and stock/inventory systems
- Has excellent attention to detail and can work accurately
- Can prioritise tasks in a busy retail environment
- Works well as part of a small team where roles sometimes overlap
