The Role
Step into a key leadership role in the Melbourne newsroom, where you'll shape the stories that matter most to Victorians .
The ABC is looking for a Planning and Impact Lead to champion live, local and distinctive news coverage across digital, audio and video platforms. You'll provide high-level support to the Melbourne Metro Editor and Deputy Editor, coordinating news coverage, leading editorial planning, wrangling logistics and driving strategic initiatives. Two days a week, you'll step into the Supervising Producer role to oversee and output the 7pm TV news bulletin.
The Job
- Drive distinctive, high- impact reporting in the Vic News team.
- Lead multi-platform news planning, working with Regional Vic leaders and the Network Desk to keep the audience front of mind.
- Work two days a week as Supervising Producer of the 7pm TV news bulletin, building and outputting bulletins.
- Use your strong news sense to assess priorities and plan coverage, including logistics and resources, to ensure ABC News is delivering high-quality daily, breaking news and major events coverage
- Manage community engagement events and projects, and collaborate with 774 Radio Melbourne and other capital city radio stations.
- Lead and develop newsroom staff, set team goals and KPIs, and help train new staff and manage internship programs.

About You
You're an experienced newsroom leader with sharp editorial judgement and a passion for telling stories that reflect the diversity of Australia.
You'll have:
- A track record in senior newsroom roles,
with advanced editorial skills and experience overseeing complex stories.
- Excellent planning and logistics skills, including resource allocation for daily news and special events coverage, and experience building and outputting TV news bulletins.
- Solid knowledge of Victorian news, the ability to generate original story ideas, and the leadership and communication skills to motivate teams and work collaboratively across them.
