Youth Worker: Inala Flexible School

- TENURE: Casual
- START DATE: As soon as can be negotiated with successful candidate
- CLASSIFICATION: School Officer, Level 5

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Youth Worker supports Young People to engage in learning through in-class support and the delivery of workshops and activities that promote inclusion and social development.

The Youth Worker collaborates with teachers, other Youth Workers and school leadership to:

- Support effective learning and teaching programs for Young People across middle and senior phases of secondary education;

- Contribute to the development and implementation of school objectives and planning;

- Build collaborative relationships with staff, Young People and families to support planning, actions and outcomes;

- Support Young People to engage with relevant external agencies through appropriate referral pathways and stakeholder meetings; and

- Contribute to maintaining a supportive and inclusive Flexible School environment.

ABOUT YOU:

ESSENTIAL:

- A current Working with Children Check, i.e. a Blue Card.

- A current First Aid certificate or ability to obtain.

- A current Driver's License.

- Previous experience in the youth sector or a similar role, including demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Young People, families and communities.

- Skills and knowledge in youth/social work/wellbeing theory, process frameworks and ethics.

- Effective written and oral communication skills.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE:





- Holds or must be working towards a Diploma or Cert IV in Social Work/Youth Work, and/or relevant practical experience.

- A Light Rigid License.

- An interest and experience in working with Young People with a range of learning needs.

- Experience running activities with Young People.

- Ability to analyse complex situations and respond with appropriate strategies.

- Demonstrated capacity to work effectively in a challenging and unpredictable environment.

- Demonstrated capacity to work both autonomously and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

- Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed practice, culturally responsive approaches and the application of the EREAFSL Flexi Practice Framework.

- Good time management and planning skills.

- Be open and responsive to diverse cultures, backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, values and beliefs.

- Understanding of and commitment to the values of a Catholic educational system of schools in the Edmund Rice tradition.

Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) Flexible Schools Ltd currently educates over 2,700 young people in 22 Flexible Learning Schools (12 based in Queensland and 10 other schools across Australia) and two Special Education Services Schools in NSW, with approximately 800 staff nationally. Flexi schools serve young people who experience complex educational, social or psychological situations which demand unique responses. They enable young people to engage in education in a supported learning environment through a methodology based on trauma informed practice, to co-create a Common Ground using Operation by Principles, in which the principles of Honesty, Respect, Participation, Safe & Legal are embedded. Our special schools serve young people with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities.
