About the opportunity
Unison Solar Energy is seeking an experienced Workplace Health Safety and Environment Business Partner to help support the next stage of our manufacturing capability. This is an opportunity to partner with managers, employees and contractors to identify risks, implement practical controls and strengthen WHSE capability across all functions and divisions, including manufacturing, engineering, projects, supply chain, sales and corporate services.
Reporting to the Head of Human Resources and working as part of a diverse and multidisciplinary team, you will collaborate closely with all departments of Unison Solar Energy to solve manufacturing challenges and deliver sustainable improvements to protect people, prevent environment harm and support safe, compliant operations. Provide specialist advice and practical site support across the Unison Solar Energy production.
Responsibilities
· Develop, review and maintain WHSE policies, procedures, registers and management systems in consultation with stakeholders and through Head of HR approval.
· Contribute to the annual WHSE improvement plan and support approved initiatives, identifying resource needs and specialist support.
· Facilitate WHSE risk assessments and maintain risk registers with accountable managers; support control selection; implementation and verification; prioritising elimination and the hierarchy of controls.
· Conduct workplace inspections and verify controls for plant and machinery, electrical hazards, hazardous chemicals, mobile plant, traffic, isolation, permits to work and other relevant high-risk activities.
· Work with Operations and Facilities to implement and monitor controls for waste, emissions, wastewaters, stormwater, chemical storage, spill response and approve resource efficiency initiatives.
· Coordinate environmental monitoring and specialist advice where required; investigate environmental incidents and support corrective actions.
· Coordinate timely reporting and investigation of hazards, near misses, injuries and environmental incidents and preserve evidence, identify root causes and agree corrective actions and accountable managers.
· Support injury management and return to work, contributing workplace assessments, suitable duties advice and liaison with managers, insurers and treating providers as appropriate.
· Coordinate internal and external audits, inspections and independent reviews, prepare evidence, liaise with auditors and authorities, support relevant supplier or contractor audits.
· Identify WHSE training needs and maintain a training and competency matrix; develop and deliver inductions, toolbox talks, environmental awareness and practical manager and employee training.
· Provide regular WHSE reporting, covering material risks, compliance status, incidents, environmental performance, audit findings, training completion and corrective actions.
What you will bring
- A tertiary qualification in Work Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety or a relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in manufacturing, industrial operations, construction or a comparable environment.
- Lead auditor training and experience in ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems, such as ICAM or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of Australian and Queensland WHS and environmental requirements, worker consultation and relevant rehabilitation and workers compensation processes.
- Practical capability in risk assessments, industrial safety controls, contractor management, environmental controls and emergency preparedness.
- Experience conducting internal audits, supporting external audits and investigations, maintaining management systems and verifying corrective actions.
- Ability to prepare clear risk and compliance reports, analyse performance data and maintain reliable registers and records.
- Training and assessment qualifications, or demonstrated experience designing and delivering workshop learning
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and project management skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- A hands-on, solutions-focused approach with a strong commitment to safety, quality and operational excellence.
Experience in solar, renewable energy, electrical products, construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, defence or another relevant sector will be highly regarded.
