About the role
Reporting directly to the Principal, the Assistant Principal – Pedagogy and Practice will provide strategic leadership of teaching, learning, pedagogy and professional growth across the College.
This is an opportunity for an experienced educational leader to influence classroom practice, build teacher capability and contribute to whole-school improvement.
You will lead the development, implementation and refinement of the St James Teaching and Learning Framework, champion evidence-informed practice and foster a culture of high expectations, high support, reflective practice and continuous improvement.
Working collaboratively with the College Leadership Team, Directors, Heads of Faculty and other middle leaders, you will:
- Provide strategic leadership in pedagogy, instructional practice and teacher development.
- Lead whole-school pedagogical frameworks and contemporary teaching practices.
- Build teacher capability through coaching, mentoring, modelling and professional dialogue.
- In conjunction with the Principal, Deputy Principal, Assistant Principal Learning and Pathways lead professional learning for teaching staff.
- Oversee the development of a Middle Leadership Professional Development Program.
- Support the mentoring and pedagogical induction of early career and new teachers.
- Use student achievement, engagement and learning data to inform improvement.
- Promote inclusive and innovative approaches that respond to the diverse needs of learners.
- Help lead school improvement, innovation and change initiatives.
- Help foster a culture of professional inquiry, collaboration and continuous improvement.
About You
We are looking for an educational leader who combines strong pedagogical expertise with the ability to inspire, develop and influence others.
You will bring:
- Significant educational leadership experience, including a minimum of three years as a Middle Leader.
- Strong knowledge of contemporary pedagogy, curriculum, assessment and educational research.
- Demonstrated experience and successful outcomes in curriculum development and/or pedagogy leadership.
- Experience using student and school-wide data to inform decision-making.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in leading inclusion.
- High-level interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
- The ability to build professional trust and collaborate effectively across teams.
- Demonstrated intercultural competence.
- A commitment to professional learning, reflection and continuous improvement.
- Queensland College of Teachers registration, or eligibility for registration.
- Relevant postgraduate qualifications, or a willingness to undertake appropriate postgraduate study.
