Shimmer & Whimsy Village is seeking pro bono Directors to join its Board.
Shimmer & Whimsy Village is being developed as a long-term community response to a gap many people encounter after crisis: the point where emergency support ends but life is nowhere near rebuilt.
Our model brings together housing, food, community, gardens, animals, practical learning, support and pathways toward greater independence.
We are building the governance structure required to turn that vision into a protected, sustainable organisation.
And we are looking for people willing to govern it properly.
This is a pro bono governance appointment
Directors contribute their governance expertise and time voluntarily.
There is no salary, wage, sitting fee or Director fee attached to Board service.
We want candidates to understand the commitment clearly before applying.
This is not a ceremonial Board position
Directors will be expected to:
read and question information;
prepare for meetings;
understand organisational finances;
consider risk;
protect the charitable purpose;
challenge management appropriately;
make difficult decisions;
disclose conflicts;
exercise independent judgement; and
participate actively in collective governance.
You do not necessarily need to have been a Director before
We recruit for capability rather than title matching.
Previous Board experience is valuable, but so are transferable capabilities developed through:
leadership;
skilled practice;
community organisations;
finance;
law;
governance;
human services;
housing;
safeguarding;
disability;
philanthropy;
construction;
property;
strategy;
risk;
business;
research;
advocacy;
lived experience; and
other relevant environments.
We are interested in what you can demonstrate—not simply positions you have previously held.
We want Directors who can disagree with us
Constructive disagreement is part of positive governance.
Directors must be capable of respectfully challenging:
other Directors;
the Chair;
executives;
advisers; and
the Founder/CEO.
We are not looking for automatic agreement.
Nor are we looking for opposition for its own sake.
