As a permanent part time Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) Driver with Canberra Metro Operations (CMET), you will bring focus, consistency, and sound judgement to a role that helps keep Canberra moving.
No previous rail experience is required. Through 8–9 weeks of comprehensive paid training, you will build the technical knowledge and skills needed to safely operate Canberra's LRVs.
Professional Operations That Move Canberra
As an LRV Driver, you will operate independently within a highly coordinated network. Your focus, judgement and consistency will help passengers reach their destination safely, reliably, and with confidence in the service.
This is a safety-critical role where routine is purposeful, not passive. You will follow established procedures while staying alert to changing conditions, applying sound judgement and taking responsibility for the safe operation of every service.
Key responsibilities include:
Safely operating LRVs in accordance with procedures and regulations
Delivering safe, reliable and punctual passenger services
Communicating clearly with passengers, colleagues and the Control Centre
Responding calmly and professionally to incidents and changing conditions
About You
You might already work in transport, logistics, or another safety-critical operational environment. You might be changing careers, returning to the workforce or looking for an opportunity to learn something new. What matters is that you value responsibility, procedure, customer service and the satisfaction of doing a vital job well.
This role may suit you if you take pride in being dependable,
maintaining concentration and getting the details right – not occasionally, but every shift.
Maintain concentration and attention to detail
Have strong communication and customer service skills
Be respectful, inclusive and comfortable working as part of a team
Hold a current Australian C Class Driver Licence
Have Australian working rights with no restrictions

Due to the safety-critical nature of the role, the recruitment process includes:
