The Department for Environment and Water is seeking two motivated individuals to join the Ranger team in the Gawler Ranges National Park. Funded through the National Indigenous Australians Agency and delivered in partnership with the Gawler Ranges Aboriginal Corporation, the Indigenous Aboriginal Ranger program supports Aboriginal employment, training, and leadership in land management.
As Ranger you will be responsible for the delivery of park management programs within the Gawler Ranges while ensuring cultural knowledge, Aboriginal heritage and cultural values are respected, protected and maintained. You will contribute to caring for Country and conservation programs, working closely with Traditional Owners, Elders, and DEW regional staff. The OPS3 Ranger will take a lead with supervising and supporting the Ranger team.

Salary:
- OPS2 $66,441 - 69,504 per annum
- OPS3 $74,095 - $78,694 per annum
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake natural and cultural land management activities
- Support pest plant and feral animal control and participate in fire management.
- Monitor wildlife and support the return of native species
- Lead and provide supervision to the ranger team (OPS3 only)
- Maintain park infrastructure and visitor facilities
- Assist with the management of cultural heritage sites and projects
- Work with Elders and Traditional Owners to strengthen cultural knowledge and connection to Country
- Participate in training and development opportunities

Essential Criteria:
Current class “C” driver's licence and willingness and ability to safely operate a 4WD is essential.
Special Conditions
- Will be required to participate in emergency preparedness, response, recovery, search and rescue and marine mammal stranding activities as directed by government agencies. This may require at times, some out of hour's work including the participation in an “on-call” roster.
- Will be required to undertake a medical and fitness assessment for a Fire Fighting Role Classification as defined in the DEW Fire Management Policy and Procedures.
- Will be required to work regular weekends and public holidays for which a penalty rate will be applied.
- May be required to work from any location within the region or any region or management unit within the state.
- Wearing a company uniform during working hours and/or when representing the department is mandatory.
- Intra-state travel is required, including time away from home and travel in light aircraft.
- The Department for Environment and Water is committed to providing a safe workplace to all children and young people who access our services and visit our sites. This role requires candidates to provide a valid Working with Children Check which must be renewed every five years before expiry. DEW will cover the cost of renewal.
- This role requires candidates to provide a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check which must be renewed every three years before expiry. DEW will cover the cost of renewal.
