Kitchen Lead / Chef – Barristers Block, Woodside (Adelaide Hills)

About us

Barristers Block is a family-owned cellar door and restaurant in Woodside, in the heart of the Adelaide Hills. We're part of Allen Family Estates, alongside Boston Bay Wines, and we pair our own wines with seasonal, produce-driven food for locals, visitors and events.

The role

We're looking for a hands-on Kitchen Lead to run our kitchen day to day. You'll work closely with the Venue Manager to deliver a great guest experience and a kitchen that runs well commercially. This is mostly a daytime role, Thursday to Monday, with occasional evening functions and events.

What you'll do

- Lead the kitchen during service, cooking excellent food consistently at pace.

- Work with the Venue Manager on menus, events, staffing and the overall guest experience.

- Build and cost seasonal menus that match our wines and use local Adelaide Hills produce.

- Own the kitchen numbers: food cost, wastage, labour and margins. Spot what's working and fix what isn't.

- Handle ordering, stock control and supplier relationships.

- Roster, train and lead a small kitchen team, and keep it a good place to work.

- Keep food safety,



hygiene and WHS standards high and compliance up to date.

- Plan and deliver menus for functions, weddings and private events.

About you

- You've worked as a Head Chef, Sous Chef or Kitchen Lead, ideally in a winery, restaurant or busy café.

- You think commercially and know how to hit food cost and labour targets.

- You're a calm, organised leader who can run a pass and a team.

- You're collaborative and happy to work hand in hand with front of house.

- You care about local produce and seasonal cooking, and you're keen to learn about wine pairing.

- You have current food safety qualifications, or are willing to get them.

- You can work Thursday to Monday, including weekends and public holidays.
