About your team
The Business Development (BD) team works at the centre of Wesfarmers, supporting the Group's long-term growth and value creation objectives. Working closely with the Managing Director, Board, divisional leadership teams and Corporate Office functions, the team contributes to some of the Group's most significant strategic and commercial priorities.
A high-performing and collaborative team, BD combines commercial thinking, financial discipline and a strong action orientation to deliver value for Wesfarmers shareholders.
The team's work spans growth opportunities, acquisitions and divestments, corporate planning, strategic projects, major capital proposals and portfolio performance across the Group.
What you’ll do
This is a full-time, fixed-term opportunity through to May 2027, supporting the team during an internal secondment.
You will provide high-quality proactive support to the Executive General Manager, Business Development, General Managers and broader BD team. You will help create an environment where the team can operate effectively, enabling strong connections across the Group, a positive team member experience, learning and development initiatives, financial discipline, and the successful delivery of team activities and events.
- Executive and team support: manage the Executive General Manager’s diary, travel, correspondence, meetings and competing priorities, while providing practical assistance to the General Managers and wider team
- Planning and coordination: coordinate divisional scheduling and maintain clear calendar and reminder systems to keep ahead of key dates and upcoming requirements, working closely with Executive Assistants across Corporate Office and the Wesfarmers businesses
- Team operations: coordinate onboarding, offboarding and recruitment activity, and the day-to-day processes that enable the team to operate effectively across three offices
- Learning and development: help develop and schedule the team’s learning and development program, including group wide training
- Budget and cost management: prepare and manage the team budget, provide EGM monthly overview of costs using Power BI and ensure variances are managed accordingly, hold team accountable and maintain oversight of costs projects, expenses and invoices in line with company policy
- Reporting and materials: prepare and distribute reports, including board papers, and monthly reports for the Managing Director
- Events and team engagement: organise the biennial group commercial summit, annual offsite and other team functions throughout the year
- Team administration and continuous improvement: coordinate team information and records, support office housekeeping and identify practical ways to improve services and processes for the department including through the use of generative AI
What you’ll need
- Substantial experience supporting senior executives and teams in a complex commercial environment
- Sound judgement and a proactive approach, with the ability to anticipate requirements and progress work with limited direction
- Strong organisation and attention to detail across complex diaries and scheduling, events, and general team coordination
- Comfort working with budgets, forecasts, cost centres and reporting; Power BI experience will be advantageous
- Confidence working with senior stakeholders, balanced by discretion, humility and a willingness to contribute wherever needed
- A collaborative and practical working style, with the ability to build productive relationships across different teams and ways of working
- An improvement mindset, with the initiative to identify practical ways to improve processes and take ownership of implementing them
- Advanced Microsoft 365 skills and an interest in, or demonstrated capability using, AI tools to support day-to-day work
