There is a vacancy for a suitably skilled Food Safety and Quality Assessor – Pre-Operational to join the team at the Broadmeadows site. The primary purpose of this position is to verify that production areas, equipment and food-contact surfaces meet hygiene, allergen and food safety requirements before production starts. The position has authority to withhold release where standards are not met and to approve start-up once corrective actions have been verified.

Hours of work: 3:00am to 11.30 am

Skills, knowledge and experience required:

A good understanding of HACCP, GMP, sanitation standards and pre-operational hygiene requirements.

Proficient spoken and written English, with the ability to complete accurate inspection records and communicate findings clearly.

Experience in quality assurance, sanitation verification, environmental monitoring or food manufacturing is preferred.

Key pre-operational duties and responsibilities:

· Complete scheduled pre-operational inspections of production rooms, processing lines, equipment, utensils and food-contact surfaces before start-up.

· Identify hygiene, housekeeping, foreign-matter and equipment-condition issues before start-up, and assess the associated food safety risk.

· Verify cleaning outcomes against sanitation procedures, SOPs, HACCP controls, GMP requirements and site standards.

· Perform and document required verification checks, including visual assessment, ATP testing, allergen verification and microbiological swabbing in line with the site schedule.

· Place non-compliant areas or equipment on hold, clearly communicate the issue, and coordinate corrective cleaning and reinspection.

· Release production areas and equipment for start-up only after all acceptance criteria are met and corrective actions have been verified as effective.

· Immediately escalate repeat,



unresolved or high-risk findings to Production, Sanitation and Food Safety and Quality leaders, including any issue that may delay start-up.

· Maintain accurate and timely records of inspection results, test results, non-conformances, corrective actions, retests and final release decisions.

· Raise and support investigation of deviations or non-conformances identified during pre-operational checks.

· Confirm that changeovers, allergen controls, line clearance and start-up conditions meet documented requirements.

· Collect environmental and product-contact samples in accordance with the site sampling plan and maintain sample traceability.

· Monitor recurring pre-operational issues, identify trends and contribute to preventive and continuous improvement actions.

· Provide a clear handover of inspection status, outstanding corrective actions, held areas or equipment, and any start-up restrictions to the incoming shift and relevant operational teams.

· Maintain truthful, legible and complete records with explicit traceability for all inspections, tests and release activities.

· Work collaboratively with Sanitation and Production teams to maintain strong hygiene standards and support the site’s “Food Safety Always” culture.

· Apply risk-based decision-making consistently and remain prepared to delay start-up where food safety requirements are not met.
