THE ROLE

Location: Doncaster VIC 3108 and surrounds

We are seeking experienced and compassionate Disability Support Workers to provide person-centred support to a young man living in his own apartment in Bulleen.

Support is delivered in line with his Behaviour Support Plan, with a focus on safety, communication, daily living, community access and engagement.

Supervision and safety

- Follow all approved restrictive practices, including locked doors within the apartment and a child lock engaged when travelling in the vehicle
- Manage behaviours of concern calmly and strictly in line with the Behaviour Support Plan
- Complete incident reports for any behavioural incidents in line with NDIS requirements

Communication

- The participant is largely non-verbal and communicates using visual aids, gestures and pictures on his mobile device
- Maintain a calm, patient and consistent communication style
- Follow participant-led communication, allow processing time and watch for cues of dysregulation

Personal care and daily living

- Support morning routine, breakfast and personal care on morning shifts
- Support dinner,

shower and the evening and bedtime routine on evening shifts
- Respect his eating preferences - he eats alone in his room, and this is supported without pressure to change it
- Overnight sleepover support from 10:00pm to 7:30am, including a morning handover

Community access

- Support appointments, exercise and community participation with constant supervision
- Avoid or carefully manage noisy and crowded environments, planning outings around quieter times and locations
- Minimise exposure to sudden loud noises and other sensory triggers

Engagement

- Facilitate his interests, which include drawing, art, making creations, online games and movies
- Read his regulation each day and adjust activities and expectations accordingly, as engagement varies day to day
