The Opportunity
With significant institutional backing and an ambitious growth strategy, our client is regarded as a leading business within the renewable energy sector. Operating a growing national portfolio of renewable energy assets, the organisation is entering an exciting period of expansion through continued investment, development and growth initiatives.
They are looking to add to their high performing and critical finance function through the appointment of an Accountant. Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, the role will be broad and exciting, with responsibility across financial control, reporting, compliance and business partnering.
The position will work closely with Asset Management, Operations and Project teams, providing financial insight and support across the full asset lifecycle. This is truly a rare, exciting and varied role for an ambitious accountant looking to develop their commercial experience within a rapidly growing asset intensive environment.
The Challenge
- Own month end activities across operating and project entities, including journal preparation, general ledger maintenance and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare P&L; and asset level financial reporting, providing variance analysis and meaningful commentary on performance.
- Maintain fixed asset registers, ensuring the accurate treatment of capital additions, disposals and depreciation.
- Manage bank reconciliations, cash management, intercompany transactions and associated reconciliations.
- Support cost tracking and analysis across operating assets and projects, identifying variances and opportunities to improve cost control.
- Ensure accounting transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards and internal policies.
- Support statutory reporting, annual audit and tax processes, including the preparation of supporting schedules and responding to auditor queries.
- Partner closely with Asset Management, Operations and Project teams, providing practical financial support and improving financial visibility across the business.
- Work closely with FP&A; across budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis to support improved financial performance and forecasting accuracy.
The Expertise
- CA, CPA or equivalent qualification, with strong technical accounting fundamentals.
- Ideally you are currently within a Big 4 or leading mid tier accounting firm across Audit, CFO Advisory or Business Services and looking to make your first move into industry.
- Alternatively, you may already have relevant commercial accounting experience within an asset intensive or project driven environment.
- Experience within renewable energy, infrastructure, utilities, property, mining or another asset intensive industry will be highly regarded.
- Strong understanding of month end accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, financial reporting and financial controls.
- Strong analytical and problem solving capability, with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and engage effectively with finance and non finance stakeholders.
