Do meaningful work and be supported to do it well
“We contribute positively to the lives of people who need support to live a life they find meaningful.”
Luminary Community Services was created because too many people with disability were falling through the gaps, particularly people whose needs required more individualised, thoughtful support.
We believe everyone has the right to feel safe, to be heard and to lead a life that is meaningful to them. As an occupational therapist at Luminary, you will join a close-knit multidisciplinary team that cares about its participants, its work and one another.
We are welcoming occupational therapists to join us in early 2027. If you are approaching graduation, beginning your career or looking for your next opportunity, we would like to hear from you.
Your development shaped around you
Our person-centred approach starts with the people who work here.
We take the time to understand your strengths, how you learn and where you need support. Your onboarding and ongoing development are tailored to you, with training introduced at the right time and responsibilities graded to support your growth.
For new graduates, this includes shadowing, joint visits and protected learning time. Your caseload builds gradually as you develop your skills and confidence, with clear expectations and support as you work towards a full caseload.
You will have:
- Weekly formal clinical supervision to begin with, with a choice of clinical supervisor.
- Readily accessible informal clinical support throughout the working day.
- Separate monthly operational supervision with Mali McKie, in addition to your clinical supervision.
We want you to feel comfortable asking questions, discussing uncertainty and seeking guidance. Our commitment is to help you develop into a capable, confident practitioner who can build a meaningful career at Luminary.
The opportunity
We support a wide variety of NDIS participants. Your caseload can be shaped around your interests, skills and stage of practice, with opportunities to develop areas of professional interest over time.
In this role, you will:
- Complete occupational therapy assessments and develop practical,
person-centred recommendations within your experience and capability.
- Provide therapy that supports participation in everyday activities and helps people work towards goals that matter to them.
- Work collaboratively with participants, families, carers, support workers and other professionals.
- Prepare clear reports and recommendations that explain people’s functional needs and the supports that may help.
- Review outcomes, adapt your approach and maintain accurate clinical documentation.
What you can expect from Luminary
Quality over quantity
- We want you to have the capacity to think, collaborate and provide support you are proud of. Thoughtful assessment, sound clinical reasoning and meaningful outcomes matter here.
Professional development that is properly supported
- Full-time OT's receive a $4,000 annual professional development allowance and four days of paid professional development leave each year. Your development is shaped around your interests, qualified goals and stage of practice.
Flexibility and a place of your own
- Full-time and part-time positions are available, with flexible working hours and the ability to work from home where appropriate for your role and the people you support.
- You will have a laptop, phone and your own dedicated workstation, with no hot-desking. Work-related kilometres are reimbursed.
A team that knows you and values your contribution
- You will work alongside colleagues who share knowledge, celebrate one another’s achievements and take an interest in the person behind the professional role. Your ideas about clinical resources, service delivery and how we work together will be welcomed, whatever your level of experience.
Room to build your career
- As Luminary continues to grow,
you will have opportunities to expand your skills, develop areas of professional interest and help shape a future within the organisation that reflects your strengths and goals.
- We are looking for someone who wants to build a meaningful career and contribute to a workplace we can all be proud of.
Who we are looking for
We hire the person, because we can teach the skills.
We place strong value on curiosity, communication, accountability, open-mindedness and a willingness to learn. Whether you are graduating or bringing years of experience, we are looking for someone who:
- Seeks to understand the person and what matters to them.
- Practises respectfully and without judgement.
- Is reflective, open to feedback and willing to try new approaches.
- Communicates clearly and builds trusting relationships.
- Takes ownership of their commitments and seeks support early when needed.
- Enjoys collaboration and develops independence appropriate to their experience.
- Wants to contribute to a workplace and a profession they can be proud of.
Qualifications and requirements
You will need:
- A recognised occupational therapy qualification by your start date.
- Current registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia through AHPRA, or eligibility to obtain registration before commencing work as an occupational therapist.
- A current driver’s licence and capacity to travel throughout Albury–Wodonga and surrounding areas.
- A current NDIS Worker Screening clearance and other clearances relevant to the role, or a willingness to obtain them before commencing.
- You are welcome to apply while completing your studies or awaiting registration.
Interested
If you are looking for a workplace where you can do meaningful work, continue growing and be valued as both a practitioner and a person, we would like to hear from you.
Luminary values diversity and welcomes applications from people with different backgrounds, identities, experiences and perspectives. Please let us know if you require any adjustments during the recruitment process.
