This is a substantial leadership opportunity for an experienced sheep operator who wants genuine responsibility, autonomy and long term career progression. Work for one of Australia’s fastest growing agricultural investment and livestock businesses, with a focus on sustainable sheep production, premium protein and continued investment in regional Australia. The group operates 11 farming properties and this position will take responsibility for one to two large scale sheep operations based near Forbes, NSW.

Reporting to the General Manager, you'll operate as a key 2IC and lead 13 employees and contractors. You'll coordinate the care, performance and movement of 2,000 to 3,000 sheep entering and leaving the operation each week. This is a hands on management role combining livestock, people, machinery, logistics, reporting, WHS, biosecurity and broader property management responsibilities.

The Role

- Leading, supervising and supporting 13 farm employees and contractors.
- Managing daily operations across one to two farming properties.
- Coordinating 2,000 to 3,000 incoming and outgoing sheep each week.
- Monitoring livestock health, welfare, feed intake, water, behaviour and performance.
- Coordinating livestock scanning, weighing, treatments, onboarding, outboarding and movements.
- Ensuring animal husbandry programs, including health treatments, shearing and foot bathing, are completed to a high standard.
- Managing grazing, feeding, fodder production and temporary containment activities.
- Demonstrating low stress livestock handling practices using working dogs.
- Planning livestock transport, trucking, contractor attendance and operational schedules.
- Operating and overseeing tractors, loaders, feed mixers, water trucks and other farm machinery.




- Ensuring machinery pre start checks, servicing and basic maintenance are completed.
- Coordinating the maintenance and improvement of fencing, yards, pens, laneways and water infrastructure.
- Maintaining accurate livestock and operational records using AgriWebb, Datamars or similar systems.
- Recording and reporting livestock deaths, treatments, movements, health matters and operational activities.
- Providing regular written and verbal updates to senior management.
- Ordering and managing feed, fuel, animal health products, machinery parts and other operational supplies.
- Managing farm safety, biosecurity, chemical handling, animal welfare and compliance requirements.
- Coordinating toolbox meetings, workplace inspections and safety discussions.
- Developing employees through clear direction, practical support, training and mentoring.
- Building a positive, respectful and accountable workplace culture.

The Candidate

- A minimum of five years experience managing a large scale sheep operation.
- Strong sheep handling and animal husbandry experience.
- Sound knowledge of animal health, welfare, feeding, pen management and livestock performance.
- Proven experience leading farm employees and contractors.
- Strong livestock observation and practical problem solving skills.
- Experience coordinating high volume livestock movements and transport requirements.




- Strong written reporting, record keeping and communication skills.
- Experience using AgriWebb or similar livestock management software.
- Experience operating and overseeing heavy and light farm machinery.
- Knowledge of fencing, yards, water systems and general farm infrastructure.
- A sound understanding of WHS, animal welfare and biosecurity requirements.
- The ability to plan work, allocate tasks and adjust priorities as operational conditions change.
- A valid driver’s licence.
- Q fever vaccination or a willingness to obtain it.
- Experience working with a capable team of working dogs will be highly regarded. An HR or MR licence, mechanical aptitude and previous experience in a senior agricultural operations role would also be advantageous.
- You must be physically capable of undertaking outdoor and manual farm duties. Weekend and after hours work will be required when necessary on a rostered basis and occasional travel to other properties may be required.

- Base salary of $100,00-$140,000 depending on your level of experience.
