This role sits within the Financial Crime Maturity Program and plays a critical part in strengthening how the Bank uses data to detect, assess and manage financial crime risks.
As a Data Engineer, you'll build and maintain the data products that underpin key financial crime capabilities. Your work will support customer risk assessment, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, fraud detection, investigations, regulatory reporting and operational insights.
This is a hands-on engineering role with strong exposure to modern data platforms, cloud technologies, data governance, and financial crime transformation initiatives.
Working as part of an inclusive and collaborative team your key responsibilities will include:
- Design and build scalable data pipelines that support financial crime and fraud use cases.
- Develop curated datasets that provide trusted information for risk management, investigations, reporting and analytics.
- Integrate data from banking systems, payment platforms, customer applications, transaction monitoring tools, screening systems, APIs, SaaS solutions, and third‑party providers.
- Implement data quality controls to ensure accuracy, completeness and traceability.
- Create and maintain data lineage across source systems, transformations, reports and regulatory outputs.
- Support the development of customer risk models, detection rules, monitoring scenarios and analytical features.
- Contribute to the governance of critical financial crime data assets and ensure compliance with privacy and security requirements.
- Monitor and optimise pipeline performance, reliability and scalability.
- Work closely with Financial Crime, Fraud, Technology, Data and Risk teams to deliver practical solutions that meet business and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to documentation, technical design artefacts, engineering standards and operational support activities.
What sets you up for success
- At least four years' experience in Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or a similar technical discipline.
- Experience designing and supporting production‑grade data pipelines.
- Strong SQL capability.
- Proficiency in Python, Scala, Java, or Go.
- Experience working with cloud‑based data platforms such as Snowflake,
Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift, or Synapse.
- Experience with modern data engineering tools such as DBT, Airflow, Dagster, Fivetran, Airbyte, AWS DMS, or similar technologies.
- A practical understanding of data governance concepts, including lineage, data quality, metadata management, and critical data elements.
- Experience implementing data quality controls and resolving data issues in complex environments.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, source control, and Infrastructure as Code.
- Strong communication skills and an ability to work effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
- Exposure to AML/CTF, fraud prevention, customer risk assessment, transaction monitoring, regulatory reporting, or financial crime technology platforms will be particularly valuable.
