This is a substantial leadership role with responsibility for the whole afternoon shift: up to 120 permanent and casual employees, around eight production lines and two Line Managers reporting to you.
The person currently in the role is retiring after more than 20 years, creating an opportunity to bring fresh thinking to the shift.
Your priorities will be clear: improve line efficiency and output, reduce waste and quality incidents, build capability across the workforce and create a positive culture where people understand what's expected of them.
You'll be joining a business that has invested more than $80 million in its manufacturing operation and continues to invest in new production capability.
What you'll be doing
- Lead the afternoon production operation
- Set clear priorities for Line Managers and production teams
- Deliver against safety, efficiency, waste, quality and production targets
- Develop frontline leaders and build operator capability
- Plan labour and skills around production requirements
- Work closely with Engineering on breakdowns and production issues
- Drive continuous improvement and better ways of working
- Build a positive, accountable culture across the shift
What we're looking for
You’ll have leadership experience in food manufacturing and understand what it takes to run production in a high-volume environment.
You might already be leading a shift or production area and be ready for something larger.
What's important is that you can set priorities, develop people, improve performance and point to things you've made better.
The business
This is the Australian operation of a global food group operating across more than 23 countries. It is the market leader in its category, with more than 95% of its products made at this site.
There is also genuine career chance. Someone previously recruited into this same afternoon shift role went on to become Production Manager, and there are other examples of people progressing from the factory floor into senior management.
Progression is earned through strong results, leadership and a thorough understanding of the operation.
The permanent hours are 2pm–10pm, Monday to Friday, with some flexibility expected from time to time. There are only a handful of Saturdays each year, paid or taken as time in lieu.
You’ll initially spend approximately 2–4 weeks on day shift learning the operation before moving to afternoons.
$130,000–$135,000 + super + bonus, with ample free parking, paid parental leave and ongoing development support.
Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents.
