About the role

This is a member-facing role for a lawyer who wants to apply their legal expertise in a practical, industry-focused environment. Reporting to the General Manager of Policy and Professional Practice, you will be a trusted resource for REIV members, providing guidance on property legislation and professional practice, developing and delivering member training, and contributing legal expertise to legislative reviews and policy submissions. You will also develop practical resources and tools that help members understand and meet their regulatory obligations. Working as part of the Policy & Professional Practice team, you will play an important role in turning complex legislation and regulatory requirements into clear, practical guidance that supports the profession.

What you'll be doing

Act as a trusted subject matter expert for members, providing legal guidance and practical advice across a range of areas, including the Estate Agents Act, Owners Corporation Act and other Property legislation.

Prepare, review and amend template contracts, agreements and other documentation relating to real estate operations and industry activities.

Respond to member enquiries translating complex legal and regulatory requirements into clear, practical and actionable advice via the REIV Information Line, email and other communication channels.

Contribute to the development, review and continuous improvement of policies, guidelines,



best practice resources and member support materials, ensuring alignment with legislative requirements and industry standards.

Collaborate with the CPD team to design, develop and deliver education and training programs on relevant legislation and regulatory requirements, enhancing member capability, compliance and professional confidence.

Undertake legal research and analysis on emerging trends, legislative reform, regulatory developments and case law impacting the real estate profession.

Develop and maintain strong, effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including members, regulators, industry representatives and qualified service providers.

What you'll bring to the role

Minimum 5+ years of experience in working with the governing legislation including Estate Agents Act, Sale of Land Act, Valuation of Land Act, Residential Tenancies Act, Retail Leases Act, Property Law Act, Owners Corporation Act.

Relevant Tertiary Qualification.

Holds a current Australian practising certificate, or is eligible to obtain one, permitting the holder to practise as a corporate (in-house) legal practitioner in Victoria.

High Level written and verbal communication skills including attention to detail and accuracy.

Outstanding time management and prioritisation skills.

Ability to exercise discretion in all dealings and maintain confidentiality.

Self-motivated with a drive to succeed.

A commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.

Demonstrable ability to contribute to a positive and ethical culture.

Tertiary qualifications in Law and admitted to the legal profession in Australia.

Experience in a membership or professional services organisation will be highly regarded.
