CNC Metal Machinist - Smithfield
Established Australian Manufacturing Business | Major Projects | Career Development
Our client is a well-established Australian manufacturing business specialising in the processing and machining of steel products for major projects across the construction, mining, energy, infrastructure and OEM sectors .
Due to continued workload and growth, they are seeking an experienced CNC Metal Machinist to join their production team based in Smithfield .
About the Role
This is a hands-on production-based position working across a variety of CNC milling and turning machines . You will be responsible for machine set-up, programming and operation, with a strong focus on quality, efficiency and achieving production requirements.
Working alongside an experienced team of machinists, your responsibilities will include:
- Setting up, programming and operating CNC machinery
- Interpreting engineering drawings and job specifications
- Determining appropriate machining sequences and machine settings
- Performing face milling, drilling, tapping, boring and chamfering
- Working within specified tolerances and production requirements
- Conducting quality checks using precision measuring equipment
- Ensuring components meet internal quality and traceability standards
- Monitoring machine performance and production efficiency
- Assisting with preventative machine maintenance
- Identifying and troubleshooting machine faults
- Working closely with other machinists, production staff and service technicians

About You
To be successful, you will ideally have:
- Certificate III qualification with relevant on-the-job training or Certificate IV in a related machining trade
- Previous experience working as a CNC or Metal Machinist
- Heidenhain programming knowledge
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering/workshop drawings
- Experience working to precise measurements and tolerances
- High attention to detail and good problem-solving skills
- Solid organisation and time management skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- A proactive attitude and willingness to continue learning
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Full Australian working rights
- Ability to successfully complete a Police Check and pre-employment fitness requirements, including Drug & Alcohol screening
