OVERVIEW The University of Sydney is seeking a Market Intelligence Officer to join the Intelligence & Insights team within Sydney Future Students. This full-time, continuing role focuses on delivering strategic insights to support domestic and international student recruitment across undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The position involves research, analysis, and interpretation of market intelligence to support recruitment decision-making within the higher education sector. The successful candidate will collaborate with internal stakeholders and contribute to research projects that improve understanding of student behaviour, market trends, and competitive positioning.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative research activities including surveys, recruitment, focus groups, interviews, and mystery shopping
- Perform desk research and monitor higher education reports to identify emerging trends
- Analyse and interpret primary and secondary research data
- Produce reports and presentations with clear and actionable insights
- Share insights with internal stakeholders to support recruitment strategies and decision-making
- Provide project management and research support services
- Coordinate research activities to maximise productivity and meet client needs on time
- Support understanding of student channels, market trends, and competitive positioning
Requirements
- Solid understanding of sales and marketing principles
- Knowledge of student recruitment,
consumer behaviour, and the higher education landscape
- Strong competence in quantitative or qualitative research, or demonstrated skills across both disciplines
- Proven experience in project managementStrong communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively
- Analytical proficiency using tools such as Excel, SPSS, DisplayR, Qualtrics, Alteryx, M, or Python
- Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of employment
