Aroona Luxury Boat Charters is offering an exciting opportunity for a qualifiedMaster 5 / MED 3 to join our dynamic team operating out ofYorkey’s Knob Marina , Cairns. We specialise in the largest range of bespoke private charters on thenorthern Great Barrier Reef , aboard our 70ft Outer Reef Yacht,Aroona—a vessel renowned for variety, luxury, comfort, and adventure.

Aroonacaters to a variety of expeditions, including:

- Private charters for small groups
- Film/documentary productions
- Marine research
- Guided fishing, diving, kitesurfing, and spearfishing
- Minke whale encounters
- Marine surveys and mother shipping
- Exploration of islands, rivers, and remote coastlines

About the Role

Position Type: Full-time (Permanent Part-Time)
Sea Days: Approx ~100 to 120 days/year + 80 to 100 maintenance days
Location: Cairns Region (must be based locally)
Salary: $110,000–$150,000 + Superannuation and Tips.
Leave: 4 weeks annual leave + additional leave based on charter days.

Key Responsibilities

- Safely operate and navigate the vessel in remote regions of the Great Barrier Reef and Coastal systems.
- Lead a small, dedicated crew and maintain a team-oriented culture




- Liaise with the business manager to plan and create exceptional custom charters for all our guests in a safe and enjoyable environment
- Perform preventative and scheduled maintenance onAroonaand her tenders
- Manage vessel systems (air-conditioning, desalination, electrical: 240V/12V/24V, diesel inboard and outboard motors)
- Ensure compliance with GBRMPA, QPWS, AMSA, and all regulatory requirements
- Work closely with the Operations Manager and shore-based engineers
- Assist in business development, including managing budgets and operational planning

Requirements

- Australian or New Zealand citizenship
- AMSA-issued Master 5 and MED 3 qualifications as a minimum
- Current First Aid, CPR and O2
- Excellent mechanical skills
- Professional presentation
- Experience in a similar role
- Ability to live and work in close quarters at sea
- Experience in remote area operations
- Strong leadership, technical, and interpersonal skills
- High level of attention to detail

Desirable (but not essential)

- Dive Master or Dive Instructor
- Prior experience in the Ribbon Reefs and northern Outstanding Barrier Reef region
- Prior charter fishing experience
