Winanga-li is seeking a passionate and community-focused Family Learning and Wellbeing Worker to join our team and support Aboriginal children and families across Tamworth, Gunnedah and Narrabri.
This role combines family learning, supported playgroups, wellbeing support, home-learning activities and transition-to-school programs.
The successful applicant will work alongside families, early learning services, schools, Aboriginal Education Officers and community partners to create culturally safe learning environments where children and families can connect, learn and grow.

The Position
This position is primarily based in the Tamworth or Gunnedah with regular travel between the two locations including sometimes Narrabri.
The role will support delivery across:
- Aboriginal Families as Teachers (AFaT)
- CAFS – Wellbeing and Safety
The position will provide support across the pathway:
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing activities focused on child development, healthy living, parenting skills and family wellbeing.
- Supporting parents and carers as their child’s first teacher.
- Developing home-learning activities and resources.
- Supporting children and families preparing for school.
- Working with early learning services, schools and community organisations.
- Supporting Gamilaraay Language and cultural activities alongside the Language Team.
- Building strong relationships with Aboriginal families and community.
- Maintaining accurate records and contributing to reporting requirements.
About You
The successful applicant will have:
- Experience working with Aboriginal children, families and communities.
- Experience in early childhood, family support, education, playgroups or a related field.
- Understanding of child development and school readiness.
- Ability to build respectful relationships with families and community.
- Understanding of culturally safe and strengths-based practice.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to develop engaging activities for children and families.
- Ability and willingness to travel between Tamworth, Gunnedah and Narrabri.
- Current Working With Children Check.
- National Criminal Record Check.
- Experience with AFaT, HIPPY or similar home-learning programs.
- Experience supporting transition-to-school programs.
- Experience developing early learning resources.
